the latest NCRS judging guide should have all you need.

I have both of those. It just seems that a lot of restorations I see have markings all over the place that are not referenced anywhere. Are people just putting random markings on to make it look good? I found a few on mine that I documented when I disassembled it but definitely not a ton.

65hihp and I did a thread here long ago. It would be nice to see more 63-64 date stencils so we can address this issue and stop incorrect information.

That may have passed at the Regional, but it’s not correct. 63-64 frame dates were stenciled, not written in. I have tried in the past to get the judging guide changed, but without success. Joey and I discussed it many years ago so something may happen.

?????????? Makes no sense when his own words in my previous post stated 'hand scrawled pull date applied' ?

Believe what you want to believe. I have done all the research, but it falls on deaf ears….as now…..I don’t have the time or energy to post all of it, but I can’t stand bad information…..

I don't have a horse in this race, but I would like to know what Boyan knows (since he has never once been wrong in the few years I've been talking to him).
I actually don't pay attention to any of the markings unless they are on a known-original car, and I don't go to any trouble to replicate them per the "model car instruction sheet". I only put them back if I know they were there when the car was born.
Here is the RH rail on one of my 63's that has 13K miles. Preserved because the car was undercoated heavily when new.

Dates
I will dig up more photos of original cars….but for sure 63 and 64 cars had the stencil date on production cars….probably even 62, but I didn’t concentrate on those.
Your low mileage original car looks like it has the stenciled date of Second shift….( I can’t make out the Month/Year. Mine had it too before I accidentally removed it during restoration…

Boyan,
Thanks for all this. I am going to take the rocker off the white car over the holidays and take better pics to contribute to the research.
This is something I have never paid attention to, because I have never had a car with a legible stencil.
Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Nick

Date
Now that Nick, Don and I have presented several examples of 63 and 64 frame dates that have been stenciled…..does it change anyone’s mind?? How many need to be shown to confirm it happened?
Merry Christmas Nick. I will give you a call this week.

63 frame
Great thread thanks for all the info. I have two questions, one of you may be able to answer. 1) I have a 1/2/63 built car according to the judging manual frame numbers are on the driver's side under the door opening, correct?
2) Being an early car there would be no date the frame was pulled from inventory on the right-side frame rail, correct? Thanks for your help Merry Christmas.

I have a first week of August 63 built swc-one of the last 200 built. It has been an adventure trying to find out what is correct on this. I have taken off parts that were obviously never removed before (this car has been in storage from the original owner since 1978 untouched). Some of the hardware, fasteners and even a few odd ball parts were early 63, late 63 and even some that were supposed to be early 64. It seems like for the last few 63's they were grabbing anything off the shelf that would work.

When I began my quest 15 years ago to possibly garner a NCRS TF award I knew challenges were daunting especially regarding the 200+ changes during build year. That said my guidance was NCRS Manual and posts from many '63 contributors here whose knowledge I came to respect. Maybe I should have questioned frame stamp issue before application but never had reason to other than post such as JohnZ mentions. To me his accreditation on this subject was all I needed to move forward. Boyan has a compelling argument but some of factory pictures seem to be misleading and a clarification on differences should be studied. End result was a Blue Ribbon Award at Regional. begee22
