Default Having clearance trouble with 17 inch wheels

I have 17x7 with 4 inch BS and 225x50x17 bFGoodrich avenger control. It will hit the rear fender on full compression. This is the size I see everyone seem to have success with.

all stock body frame. Any ideas?

I wonder if you don't need 4.25"-4.5" backspacing

Is the gap between fender lip and tire the same on both sides? My body wasn't centered side to side in the rear and I ended up loosening the body mounts and nudging the body over. Not an easy job, but fixed my slight rubbing condition. Also make sure your camber on the rear tires is to spec.

I used 4,25 backspacing without problems.

My guess is this also. That's why most of the tire/wheel threads usually have one of us warning what works on one may not work on another.

It's been said a million times. Just because one guy has a big tire does not mean we all can.
Measure twice and be happy.

Yes it's equal on both sides, brand new spring, trailing arms, 4 way alignment done, etc. Lotsacubes, what make and size tire did you use? I know different brands of tires of the same size will have different section widths.

You have a 9.2 Section width on your tires now. Find a more narrow tire.
TireRack has a Vogue Tyre Custom Built Radial in stock your size $254 a pc with a......8.9 section width.
That is but one example. And there is nothing wrong with mixed tires ( one brand on front and another on the rear)
Good luck
Before buying tires always measure.

235/50R17 front and back. Firestone Indy 500s. Ultra performance. 245s “might” fit but close. Louie runs 245s with 4.75 BS. 4-4.25 BS seem to work for many and some not. I moved my Ebrake bracket to use 4.5 BS with the 17s. On my second set of Indy 500s.

The 17x 7 with 4 " of BS is generally a safe bet

Take a look at that link. Maybe you can figure out why you have rubbing issues.
Did you check the wheels to verify the back space is correct?
You may want to post some pictures too.

I was going to suggest that. I printed it out a few months ago and was reading it this morning. Good info.

Yes thank you....read that one a long time ago and it's a good one.....the simple answer is I have to get tires with smaller section width. I did check the backspace.

I’m using 17 x 225 / 55 with 4” backspacing on my ‘65. I had to trim the inner lip of the rear fender to clear.

I disconnected the spring and jacked the wheel up. Have about 1 inch more to bump stop.
