Default 67 Park Brake Slide hassles

I keep trashing the slide on park brake handle on my 67. No matter what I do, it works fine for a short while, then accordians. I have two friends here with 67 and they both gave up. Does anyone have a trick? I was thinking some kind of flattened tube so it cant get hung up, but haven'tgotten any farther. Thanks! Tim

I'm not sure if the following is "correct", but my '67 e-brake slide works perfectly. When I pull the handle up, the slide leaves open the notches of the ratchet. Is that factory correct, I don't know. I know mine won't jamb forward. I believe that when I put the new slide in I trimmed the tail end so it would only cover the slide opening enough when the e-brake is released. There by not jamming up in the back. I hope this helps. Mine jams foreward. Under the console. I am wearing out the console screws with all the replacing. I think I am going to fashon some type of flat tube.

Have you taken the console off to see what might be catching the slide. Dennis

Try checking with the C-3 side as I think the parking brake is the mostly the same for them. Jerry

Try a little silicone on the slide. It might help.
I replace mine 15-20 years ago. Never jams.

I can see the notches on mine when it is engaged. The short section of the slide goes to the front. The new slider you are getting may be too long. See if when you set the brake, you can see the notches in front, if not trim the front section. Also check the trim guides that the slide goes in to see if it has a bent area.
Mine works perfect and has never hung.
Just checked, mine measures 2" from the front end to the front of the handle.

I think you may be right. I have had the console plat off at least half a dozen times. It works perfectly till I screw things dow, the wrinkles up. I will try adjusting the length on the next one
