my father bought a z06 coupe in 65, paid I think $2500 for it. Took the FI off and put a carb on, stored it in grandpas barn. Went back in the ‘70s to get the FI system and grandma had “thrown those old car parts away” he didn’t know what he had, so it had a big tank, yes, FI, yes, HD brakes, yes, on top of all that it was silver. He moved onto a ‘66, father was a tad unethical, he took the engine out of the ‘66 and replaced it with the SB out of the step mothers ‘68 Camaro.

I wonder if they would have COPO’d that for you? I know you could get any GM paint, and in the late 60’s swap motors around

For me it would be a plain Jane 67 Coupe, Goodwood green with saddle interior, 4 speed, positraction, A/C and power windows.

It is not 'Radio Delete'..... the cars did not come with a radio, so one could not be deleted..... for some, a radio was not ordered......

Well.... hmmm..... tough question.

However, after figuring out what Vette to order, I think I'd make trip after trip to the parts department and buy every spare part I could afford.

50 - 60 years later I'd have everything necessary to do a credible restoration. Or I'd sell off the parts for enough to zero out the original cost of the Vette.

Either way would be a win.

A 65 with fuel injection or 66 with 350hp 327 would be great. Equipped to make it a nice driver with... M20, 3.36 posi, air-conditioning, power windows, power brakes, power steering, shoulder harnesses, headrests, leather, hazard flasher, AM-FM, gold-line tires, and of course Milano maroon with a black interior.

Our car now is a 66 with Milano Maroon and a black interior and just love the combination. That said, a tan or maroon interior would be difficult to say no to...

the COPO program did not work like that nor was GM interested in being a custom car builder.

you could order any GM car in any color GM used through the special car order, you could even get them painted in non GM colors like British racing green, so yes, for a few extra bucks the General would behave exactly like a custom car builder. You want a ‘69 Camaro with a L88, bench seat, BRG with a yellow interior, sure

I think the car I have, 65 convertible silver pearl/black leather, teak wheel, KO's, power windows, manual brakes but with an L79 instead of the L78, power steering, AC and no side pipes.
I 'd put on a luggage rack too. At the risk of a shaming I'll admit I dig luggage racks.

Would probably have to know a higher-up at gm in order to get a 63 zo6 back then.
