I am at a point where I will be detailing my engine compartment and want to carefully bring it back to its own

Rustoleum satin black is the closest to GM underhood black in my opinion

Perfect, I have had my 1964 for over 30 years and it's getting a restoration and I have been gathering correct parts and want to start with a great base.

Another vote for Rustoleum Satin Black.

It's a deeper, richer, darker black than any Krylon I've used. Too, once it's totally dry, it's tough. Walk on it. Throw rocks at it. Drop tools on it. It won't even notice.

The only downside is that it is very slow drying.... plan on a couple of days.
