For Those Who Have Installed A TKX In A C2 . . .
I'm really close to ordering a TKX for my '66 L79! I recall years ago that many who had installed the older TKO 5 speed had serious issues with getting the TKO high enough to mitigate any kind of driveline vibrations. Just wondering if anyone who has the new TKX has had similar issues? I think because the TKX is smaller (particularly on top) that those issues are a thing of the past? Just want to confirm! Thanks guys!

Tom, I’ve only had two weeks of short break-in drives (less than 100 miles total) on my ‘64 with a TKX behind an LS3. I have had no adverse driveline vibrations. The shifts are short and smooth. I bought my TKX from American Powertrain because their shop is only ten miles away from me. Should I have any issues, I’ll be able to get them quickly involved.

I've got 1 in a crate here, so I'm tuned in.

I have one in my 67 behind the L79. Installed in May of this year. Several hundred miles drive time and there is no vibration that I'm aware of. It is a great upgrade and I couldn't be happier. Especially at highway speeds.

Tom I spent 9 hours in one day with my TKX on board traveling to see you and the rest of the bunch at 2nd annual C2 picnic. The drive line sound not vibration complaints are probably from the stiffer tranny (oops) transmission mount that comes in the kit. My issues were numb butt mostly. Anyways I had to use the Harley technique to keep the pain at a manageable level. I was in desperate need of a TKX seat for sure! Lol.

Tom, I thought you had a 5-speed unit installed already. I must have not recalled that correctly.

I've had a 5 speed in my 65 L76 coupe with 3:55 gears for almost 2 years. Drove it from Northeast Ohio to Bowling Green Kentucky at highway speeds of 70 - 75 mph with absolutely no issues. Best money I've ever spent.

I have had a TKO 500 (not TKX) in my 67 for about 7 years now.
No vibration problems here!

I just replaced the TKO 600 in my 65 earlier this year with a TKX.
World of difference IMO.
The TKO was much larger and was VERY close to the tunnel which limited the ability to get the correct drive shaft angle and did produce a vibration around 70 mph.
TKX being quite a bit smaller eliminated this issue.
You're going to love the difference.

LOL I will have to admit I have driven a C! for only maybe 200 feet. A little tight for me. I assume theres more to this issue. Maybe a suggestion. Crossing a C1"s seat design over to an old Morgan design and run an air filled seat cushion that makes the ride a little more tollerable?

Comments about the TKX are always very positive and get me thinking. Your comments are the first I've read about anyone "upgrading" from the TKO to TKX. The short throws, improved 1-2 shift, etc. Most comments are from folks upgrading from a Muncie (night and day). I love my TKO 600 and it's more than good enough. But as a pathological tinkerer.... hummm...... I could probably sell my TKO for half of a new SST TKX.... hummm. Thx Larry
I spoke to a Tremec dealer yesterday who's in Reading, PA (Jody Haag) who's been in the business for 40 years and one of the things we talked @ was the older TKO series. He called it a "truck transmission" that had the issues you mentioned and more! He stated that the new TKX is "light years" ahead of the TKO and an "outstanding" product. An interesting thing @ Jody is that he's come up with a proprietary shifter that simply bolts onto the tail shaft instead of being machined into the tail shaft - I think I like his design better that others! C'mon man . . . go for it!!!

Santa came early to my house too, so the TKX is on my winter list to for my 67 L79 along with Borgeson power steering, I want to put more miles on this car. Bolt on mods so I can always put it back to stock if I want or the next owner wants it correct/stock.
