The car was not listed in the registry. It's registered now. I didn't see anywhere where it showed previous owners.

Can you get any info from F&A Auto Sales where you bought it? That might give you the most recent owner at least.

You could always join NCRS and get the shipping report to find out where it was sold new

Congratulations and welcome to the C2 side! - As you know, over this many years a lot of these cars lose their provenance unless you get documentation. Ex. I have an honest correct drivetrain, driver car that I went back 3 steps on and have the delivery but pretty much a dead end for the middle. PO stupidly repainted - more $ than sense but it was his car to do what he liked and I did not have to buy it. I went with it and made it mine
It's about what you have now that counts. Tell us & show us more! Looks nice, prob. repainted in B/C.
I saw that you were getting an inspection & looking for an original color car.
Was this original red, engine, options, etc.?

I agree, and then from there hire a title clerk in that state to research the id number, they will come up with information and then if they trace it back as coming into your state from another, go to that state and hire a title clerk to research, and eventually you will find the chain of ownership

It's a shame, you spend big $$ with them and they can't be bothered to help you out a little. Maybe a phone call, lay it on thick, say you were told they were good people to deal with and that was partly why you bought from them, etc, etc. Can't hurt to try. If you could find the owner between 2016 and when they bought it, that person MIGHT have picked up some info at the time he got it at Mecum.

The car is original color (repaint), Black Vinyl interior, PS, PB. PW, Vintage Air, all numbers matching, 327 300hp, Powerglide.
The car is a nice driver. It has it's warts though. The drivers door open **** needs major work. The entire mechanism is screwed up and almost falling off, the clock, odometer and trip meter don't work and apparently haven't worked since 2015 or longer. The tires are 20 years old and need to be replaced. The jack, lug wrench, spring and hook are missing. The care was UNDERCOATED by some northener I suppose. I wish I still had the dwell meter and timing light I had when I owned the C1. Thinking my wife wanted a C8, I sold them never thinking she would change her mind and want a C2 instead. I think the timing needs a tweaking. What she doesn't like is there is very little room for HER stuff with the top down never mind any of my crap.
I suppose the first thing on the list is the odometer and trip meter, lube or replace the tach cable, pull the clock and see if it's just burned contacts otherwise I'll get a quartz kit.
I'm not thrilled with the seats. They seem a little low so I'll have to figure a way to make them more comfortable. Other than those things, everything else works and the car draws more attention than my C1.

Your car was listed for sale on E-Bay #2462779704 that ended on 2/27/04. It was listed a second time on 3/21/04 but I didn't copy the second listing number or if it was sold. It was listed as a 327/300HP original engine with an automatic trans. The trim tag info was D8 and body# S2498. Also paint was 974 and trim was Std. Hope this helps with your search.

That really helps. I'll get in touch with eBay and see if they can provide anymore information. The listing is 20 years old. I hope they still have information that far back.
Thanks for helping. Bud

ebay does not keep any record after a few weeks. I can only think the number of auctions over the last 20 years would be in billions by now.

Update from F&A. All that they said it was burchased from a GMC dealer in Florida that bought it for his wife. I wish I knew which GMC dealer though.

I don’t think by law a dealer can release that information. Sorry to hear your criticism of F&A. They have been very responsive any time I had a question about past or previous requests. They have made repairs at their expense after the sale. From reading your other posts you seem to have some knowledge of the vehicles. Did you check or ask if the vehicle had a Jack before you purchased or that if the clock and odometer were working? Very unusual for the original clock, odometer and radio to work on C2s. Also I recall you were advised to have someone check the car. How did that work out?

Actually F&A was okay. I really can't complain. They didn't misrepresent the car. They were honest. I probably should have waited to find a suitable car from an individual rather than a dealer to save some money. I had a pre-purchace inspection done by a very knowledgeable C2 NCRS judge. He did mention the clock, odometer, steering, no jack and lug wrench, and some other small things. I knew what I was buying. As with any large purchase there is always some second guessing. Could I have gotten a better price, maybe. Could I have gotten a car with fewer problems, most likely. I'm a big boy and I'll live with what I have and if nothing else, it will keep me busy this winter.
One thing I did not consider though was room for luggage. My C1 had a trunk large enough for 2 large chairs for car shows, a cooler, detailing supplies and trophies. The C2's cargo is very limited and getting things in with the top up is more difficult. The chairs for car shows won't fit and there isn't much room for anything else.
