62 lid/trunk springs torched?
The deck lid on my 62 would not stay up by itself, the trunk lid did stay up most of the way. It looks like the springs had been heated to soften them? There is repair on the lid where the hinge mounts got torn out of it, I wonder if the springs were " modfied" to prevent it opening unexpectedly? of if the repair is strong enough to work with the springs in place?
I finally took out one of the hinge assemblies, and replaced the springs. Working on the other side now.

Someone makes a kit to convert those spring assemblies to a hydraulic setup. Like hood struts. Probably be a better solution. Those spring assemblies are very strong. I think it was Corvette Central ?

That modified hinge assembly appears in the earlier CC catalogs, didn't see it inthe later ones,,,

On my '62, I have to try to remember to keep a hand on the trunk lid as it opens or it will spring to the fully raised position with remarkable speed and strength. It always scares me that it's going to break something. All original hardware.

I guess I'll see what happens.
I have no interest in going modern on this part of the car....that's always a very last resort for me.
I can tell you that having no spring up action at all, and not even any holding up ability, gets to be a real drag when raising/lowering the soft top by onesself.

I doubt that repair will hold
There is also an much easier way to increase the holding power of the springs
But...
Here is a link to what I feel is the best way to repair the broken mounts
I do singles all the time
They need strength from the back side......
