6 Tail Light Options
Hello
While I have my gas tank out I decided to replace the rear wiring harness and tail lights. I have a California car that has 6 tail lights. My coupe has factory white back up lights in the center and a red light on either side.
did most people back in the day convert the white back up light(if equipped) to red so they all matched? Or did most people run the white back up in the center like my car? All red would look best, but not sure if I want to ditch the factory back ups?
last, decided to send my rear bumpers off to be rechromed. Any issues mounting the bumpers back with the gas tank installed?
thanks

It was never an option but owner or dealer inspired. I kind of like the back up light in the middle of the two red.

You could just change the clear lens to red and have red backup lights but to truly change them to brake or running lights you will need to do some rewiring and also will need to deactivate / eliminate the reverse switch on the shifter / transmission.

My 65 opted for a "convenience package" which included a Night/Day rear view mirror and the back up lights you were thinking about removing....

Back in the late 60’s I changed my backup lights to taillights and added a 3rd taillight. Purchased a solid state sequential turn signal unit out of California (which I still have on the shelf). The end result, I thought then and still do was “COOL”. Six taillights (not NCRS) in a Black coupe IS COOL! Just reminiscing and sharing. Jack J.
