Default best shocks for C2

Tried the search and had no luck. Want to replace the shocks on my 67 C2 convertible small block and wanted to see what works best.

I sold Monroe SensaTracs shocks in my store for years and I have them on all my cars. Good ride and warranty.
I believe the new name is OESpectrum and are about $26.00 each. IIRC the part numbers are, 5906 front and 5850 rear.

A lot of guys here use Bilstein gas shocks. I've used them on my 67 convertible for 20+ years, and on other Sting Rays before that. There are two kinds, Heavy Duty and Sport. Despite the names, you want the Heavy Duty model for the street. The Sport model is made for the track. A mechanic friend once put a set of Sports on my car just to show me the difference, and they felt like brass rods instead of shocks. I'm sure others will chime in with their experiences.

I was leaning toward the Koni's and considering the Bilsteins but when I went to order springs Eaton Detroit had other recommendations. I want something better than OEM.

Define what you mean "works best". Stock type AC Delco (Monroe) gas shocks will give your car a nice controlled compliant ride. If you're looking for something for a more radical purpose i.e. tracking, autocross, etc...then I'm sure there are better choices.

I have the HD Bilsteins on my 66 and 68 coupes. The 68 has had them for over 25 years, the 66 for only 15. Both sets are like new. I do have glass springs on the rear(s). Jerry

I have qa1 single adjustable shocks they are OK.

Not sure I would spend the money if I had to buy again since previous owner put them on.

I want to get the best handling without sacrificing ride quality. A good shock should be able to do both which is why I started with the Koni's.

Bilstein Gas on my non F41 C2 - really like them - have had Bilstein Gas for over twenty years for both my F41 L72 and standard suspension L36.

I had some new AC Delco replacements on one of my 63s and was chasing this infuriating, intermittent "clunk". Turned out to be a bad shock. I still replaced them with another pair of Delcos because that is what I had on-hand, but something to consider.

Work well with stock suspension.

IMHO if you're simply driving around any shock is fine.
Going for a spirited drive, then Konis, Bilstien, QA1 are a better choice.

Didn't this topic come up and earn a reply which had a few comments which I recall. A forum member who seemed to have some insight on this commented that the original design had near zero compression damping and was all about rebound damping. I recall he also said this arrangement was near impossible to get with modern gas over fluid shocks.
All I know is our roads are so bad that our convertibles, especially, twist and thump over these wagon tracks that the first thing I need is to not shake my car apart, keep the rubber on the ground and then worry about "performance", as first things first.
I'm all about compliant tires, light wheels and I'd ideally like to shave about a million pounds off the hubs, calipers and disks.

Our roads are terrible in northeast Ohio. I have KYBs on my 65 with absolutely no complaints, tracks great at highway speeds and handles the pot holes, weather bumps and irregularities with ease.

I had HD Billsteins on my 68 big block coupe and have KYB gas filled on my 65 roadster now. I would say either will fit the billet for a street driven car.

My C2 was moving around at speed especially in braking from higher speeds. I had high dollar Blisteins up front that were in good shape but the rear shocks were shot. The shop specialized in Corvettes and recommended a balance of new front/rear KYB sShocks KG4550 & KG5501 . All 4 shocks were only about $280 + install. On any road on curves or just straight bumps it feels like a new car. At 70mph I rode the brakes rather hard to a stop. No rear sway, no rear end lift.....she just tracked dead straight.
