Help with 1967 trim tag and vin - PLEASE
Hey there...
Looking at this car and having thoughts if these are real tags or not. Rivets might be suspect but I know the experts here can tell me whats what. Thanks in advance

to go further All parts of the bird cage was the zinc chromate primer green color. But on St Louis built bodies they blacked out the area of the bar around the tags and only that area. smith bodies were green with body color over spray at the door opening area. This car has been "cleaned" up in that area. And IMHO the trim tag is a repro. I would ask for other docs and awards

Mike, here is the thread about the difference in the AO Smith vs. St Louis doors. Jump down to post #19 for a picture.

The AO Smith doors had the large, flat rivets. The St. Louis bodies had rivets that look like the rivets holding the dash into the A-pillar. If it's an AO Smith body, it's not a factory 427.

I can't speak to the authenticity of the trim tag, but will say that originals do not show as perfectly flat as this one after 55 years since the top is unsupported. Take a look at how PWPOOP's tag is rolled over a bit and pulled away from the bar – that type of wear and tear is what I'd expect to see.

Ended up passing on the car as there were just too many unknowns and fishy things.
