Silver 64 Coupe found on the CF – The adventure begins!
Pretty fun story so far finding this, my dream car. I have been here on the forum a while; this is my third Corvette after a 1979 L82 and a 2002 Z06. There is a thread on my Z06 on here and the updates I did to it.
This C2 was found on Craigslist in the “Opinions on these C1/C2 for sale” thread. See post 9830
It happened to be 10 miles from my uncle in Vista, California. I think my dad and uncle were as excited as I was in the process. He happily went and checked out the car and assured me of both the legitimacy of the seller and how nice the car was.
We closed the deal and waited for Hurricane Hillary to pass to arrange shipping.
Shipping was uneventful and fast once it was picked up. Almost exactly 3 days after the car was picked up in California the wife and I went down the street to drive her home from the shopping center parking lot. The truck driver fired it up, backed it out, we signed paperwork and got ready to go home, and it died. The battery was dead. The driver tried to jump start it and at this point I think he crossed the wires and fried the battery. I talked him into going ahead and pulling it in front of our house on the top of a small hill. In the few minutes we were in the parking lot, at least 5 people came over and helped push it back up into the truck. After it was unloaded on our street, 2 neighbors came out in the couple minutes it took us to get is pushed to coast down the hill and into the driveway. Amazing how much attention these cars get.
After getting it in the garage, both my battery chargers registered a fault on the battery, so a new battery was purchased, and it fired right up! I have been busy the last month and just now am getting a chance to start planning. It has made several neighborhood trips around the block but that is it.
This car is about as basic as you can get, four-wheel drums, no power anything, no AC, 4 speed.
It is one of the two colors I was looking for, silver or Goodwood yellow. I am a fan of 6 taillights, so I welcome automatically being a member of the Ruined 64 club. The silver is supposed to be a Mercedes silver. The car was restored about 2800 miles and 6 years ago, and looking at it, it appears it was probably a frame off. The frame looks new from my limited viewing of it.
It was originally a L76 327/365 according to the ad. It has a NOM 350 with 10:1 compression 350 V-8 with a Comp Cams Roller Cam, 2.02 heads, steel crank, Arias pistons, Pink rods, Holley carburetor, and original Winters aluminum intake, according to the seller. This was supposedly one owner until he passed and I bought it from a family friend. It still has black plates.
My plans are very long term. We will be driving it around locally as it is and all upgrades will be done in steps so as to keep it on the road as much as possible.
I will do another post with our plans soon, but basically, we plan mostly reliability and comfort updates. Not kidding myself. All the mechanicals will probably eventually be upgraded.
For now, we are just going to get to know what exactly we have and have a good time with it. From the few drives so far, there will be mechanical issues to address, but that was part of the plan and the price.
We will be counting on you all and your knowledge and opinions. Thanks for reading and all the knowledge and information you have already shared.

That's exactly the right series old Blk/Yel CAL license plate on it for a life long So. CAL 64. That would mean she has a stone hard and dry rust free frame and nice bird cage.
Six taillights complete the CAL look. Welcome to the Secret Society of the 64! The best looking Sting Ray ever made!

Thank you! Exactly the type of comment I hope to get a lot of. My first car was a 52 Chevy I ended up painting in body shop in high school 30 some odd years ago. The mechanical stuff is all self taught, and that is not saying much!

Very nice! You are #205 on my unofficial list of '64's represented here on the forum.
In my opinion you are doing the right thing - drive it a bit, get to know it, figure what HAS to be done vs. what you WANT to get done.
Welcome and keep us posted.

Super cool man, I can't believe you let the c5z go after all that love and attention! I wouldn't be a good person to recommend anything for a car that's so old, but I can say that the guys on the Pro Touring Forum would have ALL sorts of ideas and thoughts on updating that slowly but surely. Hell, you might even find a thread about a c2 resto that you want to copy to make it easier.
I'm still recovering from my injury and don't have a vette anymore, but plan on getting another next year. I'm hoping to get back to work soon as well.
Congrats on that c2 man, such a great car to be able to drive around in!!
Talk to ya soon buddy! OH BTW....what's the cars name? you gotta name her man
PS.......move that benz over a little more, its stressing me out being so close to the c2.....

C2 of the Year Finalist - Modified 2020
- Congratulations, silver really looks good. May I suggest some things relative to your ideas of upgrades. Get some disc brakes on it, front only or all around. Put some PS on, maybe factory or a Borgeson conversion. If your personal comfort is important, add A/C kit. You can have the factory radio upgraded internally for better music. On the basics, check all the hoses and address the gas line issue, don't forget the rubber brake lines. Consider converting the voltage regulator to electronic. IMPORTANT>>>research on here the "Red wire syndrome". If it strikes, it can leave you stranded. Dennis

So we have TWO new '64 owners in Owasso? Sounds like my kind of place! https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-the-road.html
I'm sure you guys will be getting together.
FWIW, we bought our '92 from Doc's Corvettes in Tulsa back in 2008.

Nice car and welcome aboard. You need to get Ray to bring you down to Texas in October for the big Regional show.
