aftermarket seats
Forgive my ignorance on the site, I did a search of threads and came up with nothing although I'm sure this is an old topic. I'm looking to upgrade my seats and was wondering if anyone knew of a good source. 1965 coupe.

C4,C5,C6 and C7 seats are a great choice. Al Knock even makes custom seat covers for those year seat to mimic the original pattern

I have used C4 seats in several C1's. They are relatively cheap, and provide good side support. The seat shown below is from an '87 C4, re-upholstered by a local shop.

84-91 have the biggest side bolsters to hold you in By 92 Chevy realized the aging bigger buyers of them could not fit into the seats and made the side bolsters smaller

I found a set of Recaro sport seats out of an early 80's BMW 320is, and had them recovered by a local upholstery shop. They offer great support, but are not so big or modern that they look out of place. I just fabricated some simple brackets to adapt the seat rails to the C2 mounting locations in the floor.

Like IMSA GTO I like Recaro BMW seats, like that of an early 80s 3 series. If you can find them in salvage yard or place like Ebay you can adapt factory brackets to work very easily. You can by ones really close to them on-line but not cheap. Search for Recaro LX or Specialist LS. Like this:

I have a very finicky back, and wasn’t sure if I would be able to drive my car after I got it put together.
I found these Tanaka seats on line for 250 bucks. I thought I would give them a try first. They are quality materials, and don’t affect legroom much.
Many object to high back seats in a convertible, but I like the look, and so far they are pretty comfortable. But I haven’t driven more than a couple hours so far. I really like having the shoulder harness there.
I also have a set of Fiero seats that I will play with this winter. Making one set of adapter brackets was a pain. Didn’t have it in me to do two. Also good chance of damaging paint removing and installing seats. Many use tape to protect. I use several towels. They move with the seat instead of gouging.

If you have a Coupe The later seats, don’t look too bad, but they sure look foolish in a convertible when the seats stick up higher than the convertible top deck. That is why the C5 and C6 they put a bump in the convertible top lid to hide the top of the seat. Imo

These seats are very comfortable. Below is a picture of some C4 seats that I modified to fit under the soft top lid on a '62. I cut off the head rests and widened the top section to better fill the space. I also kept the C4 seat tilt so I can use the space behind the seats for storage (no soft top).

Racer
I did exactly as C2 Racer did on my C5 seats. Unless you are 4' 8" or less tall, there is no way that you could leave the power seat mechanism in without dropping the floor down. It raises the seats up a lot and also tilts them back too much.
I had to strip the seat down to the seat frame, then used flat steel and spacers to make it fit perfectly, at least for me.
I also had to fiberglass a broken wing in the seat, use a turkey cutter electric knife to cut the original foam, glue new foam pieces on, then use an air grinder and lots of shaping of foam. Had to put Velcro in and learn how to sew some, too. That is because I used standard seats and converted them into sport seats. I was so happy when I got the covers on and found that everything fit perfectly. Success!!

Here are my Fiero seats I just picked up from the upholsterer. I do not have the tracks on yet.
