C2 of Year Finalist (stock) 2019
Sad day at the Lolli house
Well I did something today I thought I would never do -- I sold my beloved 1966 Corvette.
I had the car for 26 years

The car sold new in 1930 for $1,895.00, a Ford or Chevy was $450.00. My kids said that they would like them, I also had the roadster, but they wouldn't know how to work on them. Also the population and traffic here has gone crazy and the drivers have no respection for the old cars.
Some of the features:
255 cu in, 87 HP sleeve valve 4 cycle engine
4 wheel mechanical brakes, rods and levers.
Weighted over 4,000 lbs.
Leaded glass rear opera lights in bronze holders
Birjur oiling system, press a pedal under the dash and it greases the king pins, spring shackles and throw-out bearing
19" tires with wire wheels and dual side mounts
Bedford cord and Broad cloth interior
When you press the horn button it beeps the horn, when you pull it outward it cranks the engine and when you turn it, it operates the head lights and high beams, they called it, "Finger Tip Control"
The dual rear view mirrors has flakes of gold in the glass to reduce glare
Thermostatic radiator lovers to control engine temperature
Aluminum Ballcrank bumpers
Reverse light
A real trunk!
An Electrolock anti-theft device, an armored cable from the switch to the distributor, that when you push the key tumbler in, the ignition is grounded and all power is turned off. Fore runner to the Chapman lock. If anyone remembers those.
Hand sewn needle point panels on the inside door panels.
Pull down shades on the three rear windows.
And more.

I sold my 1930 ******-Knight after over 25 years of ownership, so I know what you are going through.
Here is my wife, very sad, and the car the day it was going to be picked up.

Times change and sometimes we have a need to change with them. It is strange how we become attached to "objects". I have numerous vehicles that, it seems, I have had further back than my memory and even though I rarely use some of them can't cope with the thought of being without them.

Cars don't even have to be old to get that 'dread' feeling. Bought a 370Z for reliable weekend getaways. Bought a Miata for same reason for my mom, and thus know the trunk in the Miata is useless, hence I got the Z. Well.. as one would expect... never any time to go away on a weekend. The car was perfect, ordered just as I liked it, loved the way it drove, shifted, handled, etc. Sold it after about 5 years of no use with less than 1000 miles on it. Not a classic... but still hated to see it go and still miss it. Perfect car for intended use for me.. .if I only had the time to have used it.

Yes that is a straight 6 with no "poppet" valves. It ran very quiet because there is no conventional drive train.
The car has all it's original paint, except the fenders and hood. Interior was also original.
Here are a couple of pictures of the sleeves, piston/rod and individual cylinder head.

Sold this after 30 years, it was modified with a Tuned Port, TKO600, ect. I used to drive it to work quite a bit, the younger people were fascinated with the dual antennas. But I almost exclusively drive my C2 and before I knew it, the Impala had set for several years unused. The guy who bought it drives his classics and he sent me a video of it back on the road. Don't regret selling it, if I'm not going to drive it, I'll sell it to someone who will.
.
Last year I was invited to see a car collection, there were literally millions of dollars' worth of cars at this guy's house. Although seeing these cars was a real treat, I couldn't help being a bit sad knowing they would never be on road again. No one would ever get the pleasure of seeing these cars pass them on the street. No young person would ever say," wow, that's cool, what is it?" I admire car collectors but have mixed emotions about it.
