It's SLIGHTLY shorter than the WIX 42100.. which is good, because the WIX is actually slightly too tall, making it so the cleaner lid does not close fully.
On the downside, the rubber molding is much larger, making the filter area much smaller.

I'm gonna oil it up and put in in service. Seems like the best path forward for us since WIX has end-of-life'd the 42100.
300 mile trip to Vegas next weekend should be a good test.

Let us know how it goes.

I received the CC air filter that I ordered today.

The packaging doesn't have anything obvious to indicate where it's made or who makes it, but the packaging does has a small sticker on it with a part # W-C010

I googled that part # and it looks like it's made by a company called "AFM Performance" (so it's not made by K&N).

I found a few places online selling the AFM Performance W-C010 filter, but I couldn't find any sellers that state where the filter is made (so I'm assuming it's made in China).

However, the filter does appear to be decent quality and I plan to use it.

Doesn’t sound bad, is it washable like the K&N? Do you oil it?

Nice snooping! I'm surprised that the ebay sellers of this are not much less than Corvette central.. maybe $10.
Yes, it's oiled and washed like a K&N. It comes pre-oiled. It's red oil just like the K&N.

I know you guys have no good options and have to have a filter option. In the engine rebuilder business we could always tell when an engine coming in or rebuild had run a K&N filter. The intake manifold would have much more dirt in it than we saw from traditional filtration. I know everyone will say the owner did not service the filter correctly. Maybe so but the result was clearly seen inside the intake manifold and that shows far more dirt reaching the piston rings and cylinder where it causes wear. I witnessed this first hand as far back as the late 90’s.
We saw a Jeep Cherokee with a brand new 401 engine with terrible ring wear and burning oil, the guy wanted warranty on the engine. Shop owner found the dirt to be consistent with the silt they see out in the Nevada desert. Car owner admits he had gone to burning man, a well known dust bowl. I have no doubt a K&N will flow more air but I question the filtering. So if you run one, service it regularly.

I get the point, and I wish the paper filters were available.
But I'm guessing this filter (and a K&N) are at least as good as the stock foam with oil filter; likely better.
That baby had holes you can see through!

Hmm now I am going to have to go and check. I have eight to ten Old Corvette paper filters in the boxes. I am not sure what brand. I will report back if they are anything related to this post.

And .... I'm guessing the stock OEM 61-62 foam filters were considered an improvement over the OEM 58-60 air cleaners that used shredded aluminum as the filter element.

Ok so here is what I found. I have 3 new in box Purolator AFP 97 which have a secondary Wix 42100 label on them also. I guess that Wix bought Purolator out at some point. The paper element is more brown than whiteish and the wire mesh is just natural wire color. I then have a NOS one in the GM box with a ship to label going to a Chevrolet, Buick, Pontaic dealer. The paper element is white and the wire mesh is brass or brass colored. All four of these elements have the exact correct Corvette dimensions. Hope this help.

In the automotive supply chain many parts were changed from one Brand/box to another as suppliers changed or companies were bought out. A common process was to re box product A into boxes labeled product B. So if a shop had Purolator brand and wanted to changeover to Wix or Hastings brand the rep for that company would visit the store and Re box or re label all the old brand into the new brand. Then they would shuffle it into the new brand part numbering system. Since not every part sells that you stock on the shelf it can be many years later and the Purolator brand filter might still be sitting on the shelf in a Wix box. Same thing happened with many parts in the industry from the 70’s up till 2015 or so. I have not heard of this being done in several years now but the results of 30 years of this process are still out there. Back in the day a large warehouse might change from one supplier to another. Maybe Napa became Carquest. In that case as many as 100 Reps would meet at that warehouse and over a weekend change every part in the house from the old brand to the new brand. All the same parts would now be in new boxes for sale under a new brand name on Monday. Seems crazy and the only industry I have ever seen do this type conversion for customers. A lot of words to tell you in the automotive industry sometimes you do not get what you think you pay for. With all the Chinese import parts arriving in the industry the practice stopped but a lot of those parts are still floating. In most cases all of them are much better than the Chinese copy parts available today.,

Yes these are very old NOS boxes with their original filters in them that have simply had a very old WIX label attached to the bottom flap of the box. Your explanation above probably explains why the label was added.

Found this Corvette Central "Million Mile" washable filter, would be interested to hear if anyone has tried it as a long term solution:

Default Make your own (modify)

I cut a older fram 3 incher down last night using a cut off wheel to go through the wire screen then a jig saw to cut through the paper filter. I used a tube of black silicone and some packing tape for release and molded the bottom. Very prototype at this stage. I'll post a pic and probably try and improve the process and see if I can get a nice looking result.

Is there an aftermarket filter and housing from a parts house like Summit/Jegs that someone can recommend?
A small drop base or the like?

This was on my 59 when I bought it. I used the base because it fit my quadrajet with a 5” throat and I just bought the Corvette top. I am going back to it because I can readily get filters for it and I’ll save my other for car shows.

I saw this posted on another forum... I haven't verified this myself, but there may be hope for us:

WIX 42100 filters are still being produced but on back order until May 1st, 2024 via direct communication with WIX myself. Just fyi for those looking for one.

Good info, SDVette, let us know when it’s back in stock. I have two friends that are looking for this also.
BTW, I’m using Wix 42079, same diameter just a little thicker which sticks down below the filter top. Not noticeable unless you bend down to look.

I'm not a GTO guy.. not sure if that's correct.

I had clearance under the hood issues with my 62 when I installed an Edelbrock 600. To make it all work I bought an Edelbrock 4 in filter that had a step down bottom plate----threw the rest away and after much experimentation setteled on THAT step down bottom, added a 2 in filter element and set the original top plate . If you are not interested in true authenticity and NCRS jusdging NO ONE --even "I" can really spot the difference. Car runs great and the element is reuneable.
