Default 62 Back on the road

I bought this 62 last month, in California, as a basket case. The car had been partly disassembled for the red paint job a few decades ago, and reassembly didn't get very far. Then more recently, the body was almost completely disassembled, and just about ready to come off the chassis. The engine was in pieces, mostly at a machine shop. The wiring and brake lines had been cut out, lots of little parts were missing.

When I got it home

Many of the parts

I went back to get the engine a couple weeks later, and also got a Muncie 4 speed and bellhousing and some other stuff from another fellow in SoCal. This was originally a Powerglide car, but I got my arm twisted and it now has 3 pedals.

I've spent the past 6 weeks reassembling the car. I just want to drive it, so I didn't do all the restoration work that it really needs.

I'm getting things working, it has a few bugs to work out yet, but I've been able to put a few miles on it. So fun to drive!

You are amazing. That's a lot of assembly in a very short time. Well done. Now you can drive it as you "work out the bugs".

After doing all of that in six weeks, I can only imagine what you might accomplish in six months. Congrats!

Live well,

It's garage mate took about 6 months to build, but I massaged every inch of it, inside and out.

NO WAY! I'm a little jealous lol I tried to buy that car haha, but he said he already had someone coming out of state for it. You got a killer deal on that. I actually did find a 62 corvette close by there for even cheaper but man is mine in rough shape and needs every thing. congrats on the car looks great!

Thanks! It was definitely the least expensive C1 I've seen for a long while....I got lucky buying it. It would not be such a good deal if you were intent on a merciless restoration, but it's a great driver.

I've been plunking away at fixing things on this car, and it's driving pretty well now. I ended up replacing the ring and pinion, with 3.08, since the original was missing half a pinion tooth, and replaced all the bearings in the rear. Also overhauled the Muncie, it had a funky bearing and some leaks. New Dewitt radiator, and I've assembled the doors, added weatherstrip, got some tunes going, aftermarket cruise control, and fixed a bunch of other little things. Still waiting on a replacement bow so I can install the new soft top, and carpet, and not sure about the interior yet, but I'll keep after it.

Nice summer evening for a long test drive....and it's getting 15 mpg, which is fine by me.
