Default Armature Difference Headlight Motor

Question: Not ever owning a C2 Power Window Corvette, Are the Armatures different in the window motor vs. the headlight motor? Or are they the same?

I just purchased a replacement Armature for my spare headlight motor and the Bushing END shaft of the Armature is measuring at .3150 and is extremely tight starting into the housing bushing. the removed Armature bushing shaft is measuring .3125. The armature stack is also larger in diameter....So, did I buy a piece of junk? Oh, the bushing was not changed.

Thanks!

I've repaired both. They are similar but not the same. If you would like me to check my picture file I believe I have pictures of both as well as the insides. I'm not on my home computer right now so no pics.

Wayne,

Thanks for responding. The Item I bought on Ebay was very minutely different. But Critical, as mentioned.. I could make an assumption that the window motor armature is slightly larger (Shaft, Stack). Anyway, I have returned the item and will check elsewhere for a replacement.

If you get a chance, I would love to see a picture of both.....

Thank you,

Dcamick

That most definately answers my question.......They are not even close to being the same! So the head light armature that I bought new is not to spec. bearing shaft is .0025" over size and so is the stack.

Thanks for the pics!!

The reproduction headlight motors use a different size shaft. As I recall it is larger than the original motors.

Just large enough to seize inside the bushing. .3125 is the correct diameter. Might be able to drill out the bushing to .3150 But!!! I do not want to do that! I returned the armature to the seller! They will check on it. Apparently the armature that I received has seen a few homes…according to the Vendor.

With that being said, my only option would be an armature rebuild.....Or, pulling out the bushing, retainer then drilling out the bushing. As mentioned the stack is also a larger diameter...... I see no reason why any Vendor or Manufacturer would change these critical dimensions..CHINA?
