Window weatherstrip install - 63 coupe
I hate it when I buy a repro part and have fits installing it.
This time it is the weatherstrip for the coupe door glass. the originals have a round clip and the repro's are more squared off. I'm afraid if I press on these too much it will deform the weatherstrip and don't be able to get it installed. i have marked on the weatherstrip and door where these are and the slots they go in so that all is lined up, but can't seem to get these clips to clip in. I have heard of others prebending the clips, but this doesn't seem to ge the job done.
What are others doing to install these ?
I don't understand why these clips can't be tooled up correctly - cost should be the same.
original part
repro part - a pain

Melting Slicks
I pinch the clip a little to close it some, then start with the end by the vent window. I take a small piece of bar stock, 1/4" thick x ~1 1/4" wide by ~3" long and position the end of it in the channel over the first clip on that end and give it a whack with a hammer and it goes right in . Then onto the next one.
Wait till you get to the other end and see how that doesn't line up with the door shell . I usually add a screw to hold that in place.
