Default Headers for raised port heads

Planning to install an sbc 427 in my 67 coupe. The motor will have angle plug AFR heads with slightly raised exhaust ports ( .250 inches raised ) Would like to run 1 3/4 primary tubes headers. I've got oem power steering & AC.

Anyone gone down this road without making custom headers or reworking header flanges to align with cyl head exhaust ports ?

So many header brands are under the umbrella of large companies like Holley or pertronics so the tech guys don't seem to know enough detail about their products re: raised port fitment.

I was thinking about headers designed to fit SBC " D " port heads as their ports are a bit higher above the bolt center line and could work. Trying to avoid ordering and sending back multiple headers.

Try McJack’s Headers . They’re not cheap, but anything that works is worth a bit more. They most likely have what your looking for.

If you decide to try a set of SBC headers, I can recommend the set I bought from the Facebook Marketplace for less than $100. You can see them in post #11 of this thread

I am using AFR 227 heads, and using 1 3/4" 2108 Hooker headers on my 62. I think they raise the bolt holes in the heads a corresponding amount. They fit perfectly

Thanks ... My car is a C2 gen so different application than yours. You may have have more clearance in some areas than I do. Sounds like you were fortunate to have them fit with aftermarket heads

Thanks... I looked at those and spoke with Jack. He couldn't guarantee fitment with raised exhaust ports so I'm still looking. Must be someone who has done this with good results

I think I have Heddman. I need to pop the hood to figure out what brand I have for sure, but I have Edelbrock RPM heads with raised ports and factory side pipes. I went through so many different headers until we found the set that I have, but I don't seem to have the make/model written down.

Thanks for weighing in ....According to Edelbrock, the performer and performer rpm head ports are in the stock location. This is likely why you have no fitment issues

Mark, I’m using Doug’s headers on my BPE 427 sbc. I just saw your PM and will call tomorrow. Here’s the part number: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/d...b#applications

I also have a set of #2234 Hooker 1 3/4” long tube headers that the afr heads clear easily. They are for a 63-67. There is tons of room on a midyear compared to a 58-62. I have trial fit them and they fit nicely.

You are right, but I got the heads wrong. I have Victor Jr. heads with raised ports and angle plugs. I do have the parts list for the engine!

Which afr heads do you have ? If they are 195's , the ports are only raised .100 of an inch which is negligible but if they are 210's + , then they are raised about .250 inches

I'm curious to know more .... Just looked up the blueprint head specs and they say their exhaust ports are raised .500 which is twice what AFR's ports are raised. This sounds promising , providing you are using Doug's D334 headers for under car exhaust. If you are running side exhaust , that could be a totally different situation. Do give me call when you get a chance 925-577-0081.

Mark
