Default $327,000 63 SWC on BaT

Not sure what the high for 63 SWCs is but this must have been up in the top few I would think. Someone wanted it a lot.

Yeah, and it was a $26K jump over the previous bid. Pretty rare to see that sort of knock-out bid in one of these, but it worked.

Lots of guys like to do cutesy bids at the beginning of the BAT auctions, like $1963, or something, but it's rare to see a cute bid at the end like this 327, 360hp bid.

I know the car is very nice, but I'm still stunned by the amount. I think I'll go in the garage and wax my $37K '64 now.

Asking that price, you would think they could take a clear Trim Tag photo.

Its an on-line auction site. That was the final bid (actually $327,360 - I rounded). I assume it sold at that price and exceeded any set reserve.

I guess if my '64 still had original frame and motor, I could get $327,250 for it?

Al Grenning certified the pad so it's good but the vin stamping looks awfully large.

No the 64 is only worth a small fraction of what a SWC goes for. 64 is not much of a classic.

Take a closer look, you’ll see that the pad paint is only partially stripped away, making the stamping look relatively large.

It looked that way to me also, but that would be too obvious for Grenning to miss. It must be something strange about the camera angle that I don’t understand.

He was kidding. No reason for disrespectful remarks.

And, thinking about it, this is a good incentive to go ahead and put a stroker 383 in there....

Is that what they’re bringing or did it become an ego duel?

After seeing the result of the auction, I immediately thought about the guy back in 1963 who couldn’t decide between the coupe or the convertible and the wife insisted on the convertible 😳

Corvette Mike has sold 2 1963 fuel coupes on BaT for >$320K this year. Both of those had CCAS certification on the pad. It surprises me how poor his BaT presentations are. How does a dealer not have pictures of the car on a lift? Or pictures showing the bonding strips and originality of the fiberglass? What about the birdcage?

My car is just a repaint away from being as good or better than either of the two he sold, and I would never pay near this much to have a 63 fuel coupe. Unless I didn't have one, in which case I would probably justify the price.

Wife and I are looking very hard at the 330GTC on BaT now, as that's the last bucket list car I have. She asked how I would drive a $600K car around Chicago, and I said "at least twice as carefully as the $300K split window we have already".

My friend has a fuelie SWC that has all the pedigrees. He was offered big money by a collector who had a parking spot he needed to fill. I guess if your Jeff Bezos, or equal, plus or minus a few $100k is pocket change. BTW, my friend turned down the offer.

I LOVE the look of the split window externally but HATE trying to see anything in the rear view mirror. I just amazes me how people will pay the prices they bring when 65 & 66 coupes are better engineered cars for WAY less money. The same thing goes for a 67 although the price gap between them and the 65-66 cars seems to have closed somewhat in the last few years.
