63 Convertible - 60 Year Refresh

I’ve been a little slow with posting over the summer – but some good progress on the refresh. All the key parts I’d been waiting on have now arrived. Got the wheels and tires in July, and August was a banner month – the LT4 and front drive arrived, along with my seats, gauges, radiator and most importantly the Art Morrison Chassis / suspension / brakes (special thanks to Ken Sungela for letting me swap positions with him in the AME backlog!). I sold off the rolling chassis and drivetrain to a fellow member of my NCRS chapter who is restoring a 63 to driver quality. I’ve now essentially just got the body and some miscellaneous components left from the original car. The new rear tubs and floor have been installed and the 325’s on the rear are tight, may need some minor tweaks to the inner fenders, but think we can avoid flaring the fenders. Need to fit the convertible top frame to ensure it has room to store, then will get into cutting the tunnel and fitting the LT4 and T56. We’re leaning now to powder coating the main chassis (black) and epoxy coating the suspension components and differential (silver). Hoping to get the body mods all made and the motor and radiator in place in the next 30 days. So far no major surprises – but still early days.

After a hiatus of a year or so, thought I'd post an update on my still alive and in-process project now almost 24 months in (not that I'm counting). Even with a pretty detailed plan, the time and financial hole is always deeper than you expect. Lots of challenges to fit the coolers and tanks for an LT-4 into a 63 engine compartment, find a front drive system that would work with the Art Morrison chassis, modify the seats to work with the 3 point belts, etc. have put all those issues to bed and the chassis is now powder coated and assembled, basically just the exhaust left to build. The body is primed, blocked and ready for paint in Jan, the seats and some of the interior is upholstered. An optimistic view is that I will be in the driver’s seat end March. When the body is panted and mated to the chassis again in the new year it will finally feel like the home stretch and I can actually get excited about driving the finished car.
I'm guessing my experience / challenges here are pretty much par for the course....
