WOW! Look at the price of this C3
Granted a nice car but a stock 300 h.p. auto trans car? I don’t know if it is just a C3 lover caught up with this particular car or what?
I just can’t fathom someone paying midyear money for this C3.

I spotted that ad earlier as well and thought $55K was a bit of a reach for an entry level engine and auto trans. But I also remember when $20K could buy you the nicest big block C2 coupe around so it's all relative I suppose. The C3's are really starting to climb. Projects are bringing good money too. This car may not bring $55K this month, but looking back in 5 years it may seem pretty reasonable.

I would actually like to own a nice 68 or 69 convertible but my garage is full and that one, while nice, doesn’t quite fit the bill. Little on the high side too.

It may be pricey but when comparing C2 / C3 prices I doubt a C2 in that condition can be found for 50K.

Crazy money in my opinion ….. low compression base motor automatic? Then just glancing under the hood: no ignition shielding, wrong valve covers, God knows what else is missing or incorrect

I like C3s as well but there will always be a sizable gap between them and a like type midyear for pricing in my mind.
You did not look far enough down the thread it SOLD. I was shocked at the asking price and floored when it sold so quickly.
As far as what it cost to restore has no relevance it can cost the same kind of money to restore a 6 cylinder 4 door as it does a small block midyear Corvette so restoration cost means nothing.

68,
You are right, I had not realized the car sold!
Well, I suppose that's good news for everyone.
Rising tide....

Well, likely the seller had that kind of money in it or more but we all know that generally has nothing to do with what a car sells for.
Who knows what the buyer’s motivation was. Regardless I think it sold for too much for what it is. It is just like real estate comps where they throw out an extraordinary high comp as well as an extraordinary low comp. I don’t see this car advancing the market but I have been wrong before.

Is it not possible C3 values are just going up ? Natural generational effect of the people that loved them as a kid now coming into money and/or retirement. I have noticed the C3 prices jumping, a friend of mine was looking for one and good ones are selling quickly.

That looks like a nice C3 and I guess someone else thought so too. If I was a buyer and saw that everything was rebuilt I would want to know by whom and how the work was done. I have worked on too many "restored" cars that look nice and the units were either just painted or had lousy work done to flip it. I am sure many here can testify to that as well.

I have a '70 L-46 roadster and love it just as much as my '67 L-79 coupe. I never really understood the appreciable market $$$ discrepancy between the two. As stated above, they're basically the same car performance wise and component wise but people commonly poo poo C3's. I personally like the C3's mako flared fenders, bigger wheels and tires, aggressive stance, etc as much as I dig the C2's "Ray" lines and cool mid 60's vibe..... Both are 350 hp, m20, 3.36 posi cars with identical amenities...the fiberglass is just shaped differently....Why does that make one twice as valuable as the other? I'll never understand....

C3 prices are climbing fast over here in the UK with even later non-chrome low HP models fetching £20+k which is approaching $30k

Money does not go very far these days but I do think fifty five is a bit rich for that combination but looks like there was a lot of money spent to bring the car to that level. I know there is a large following for C3, I had three of them and three C2's over the years, interestingly for me they feel like totally different cars even though the same down below. Admittedly while I much prefer the C2 in nearly every way the newer model was more comfortable but felt tight inside. would I buy another, never, well may be a L88. If so the purchase window for one of those is rapidly decreasing as they are on the way to the moon, second thought, nope rather keep my 66 big block roadster.

I am one of those “kids” that grew with C3 having graduated HS in 1968. I have also owned 7 of them in the past.
Yes, they are going up in price. However my point is on this particular car, last year of the double chrome bumpers, low compression, smog car with an auto trans and base engine this is a ton of money for it. I would much rather have an LT1 or BB 1970-1971 that you can buy in nice condition for les money The subject car is in the same price range that you can buy a like equipped midyear. I like both eras but the C2s will never compete with the iconic style of a midyear.
BTW, Collector Car Market Review puts this car in #1 condition at under $42k and the subject car I’d a body ON resto. Also the seller was asking to 63-67 Corvette so it seems he also has my appreciation for midyears.

Yes. And C4 prices are starting up as well. The 60 year old today was 16 in 1976. Time rolls on.
