for those of you with a Hurst comp shifter...which handle?
so.....I'm trying to decide which handle to use....I've got the faux reverse lock stock looking handle on it now.....will I notice any difference if I switch to a straight handle Hurst stick?

no none at all as far as I’m concerned, if you like the day2 look with the classic white ball go for it.

Yes, you'll notice that the reverse lockout t is missing and the ball isn't chrome and the shaft is not round.

I have the old-style Hurst with the welded on stick. I like the way it curves back instead of being straight. Do they make a bolt-on stick like that?

The short, straight stick and faux Muncie stick seem nearly identical - I bet the length is about the same. I didn't notice any difference going to the faux Muncie stick on my Hurst except I started pulling up on the trigger when shifting into reverse - and I hadn't had a true Muncie shifter on a car for 35 years. I doubt going the other way will pose any issues.

Anyone have a pic of the one above in a C2?
I just rebuilt a hurst and got a new Strait handle, and White hurst ball. feels SO Much better and looks better too. But a bolt on curved stick may be cool too.

I found one on ebay and bought it and rebuilt it and put it in my '61. It's from about 1965. It has the curved 9" handle that's welded on. Love it compared to the later model straight handles. Looks much better, and handier to use.

I have the short straight bolt on stick. Very happy with it for about 35 yrs. Dennis

The mounting of the Curved welding on handle placed the ball in almost the same location.
The bolt on carrier in the hurst the bolts are strait up and down. and the stick is strait.
the Carrier on the welded one angles forward, and the curved handle come back placing the ball right back over it. so its mostly all cosmetics, other wise 2&4 would be way to far back.

When I bought my 60 corvette in 68 it had a worn out Muncie with a worn out stock Muncie linkage in It. I was still in the Army with a year and a half left to go. I learned how to keep it working the hard way as I had no previous experience.
After I finished my service in late 69 and returned to civilian life , I began collage and work. I decided to rebuild the Muncie and install a Hurst Comp+ shifter.
Best move I made. It had the Curved and welded handle. Butter smooth and precise shifts at normal speeds and speed shifts were beyond expectation.

I have the straight short stick white ball, Always my favorite, still my favorite. If I cared I'da put the faux stock stick on...but I don't.

On GM A Bodies with Hurst shifters (Olds and Pontiac) the ***** were black from '66 on up. Ivory only on '65 on down. So a black ball on a '66 isn't 'wrong', IMO. Period correct.
