First Corvette
It just occurred to me that it was 50 years ago this summer that I bought my first Corvette. It was my first car, and I went from a bicycle to a Corvette. I was in college, had no real money, but back then, education loans were paid directly to the borrower to do whatever you wanted to do with it.. It took less than 10 minutes to find exactly what I was looking for... a silver C2 coupe, and only 7 miles away. One owner, 1964, 327 300, 4-speed, no accidents, metallic brakes, posi, entirely original and perfect paint and body. What happiness that car brought me. I lived on Long Island, and relished driving the 400 miles to upstate Potsdam, NY to school. Back then on the NY Thruway, Corvettes would form a train driving together, and all Corvette owners gave a subtle wave to each other.
So I kept the car for two years only. it needed various things due to wear and I didn't have money to take care of it. Bought for $1800, sold for $1650 to someone in Utica, NY. I've had dreams of getting that car back. I still have the owners manual.
I caught all kinds of grief from my parents for buying it, but to this day, no material thing has ever brought me that kind of happiness.

Neat story. If you have the vin number, post it. Someone may see it and you could inquire about getting it back. Dennis

You have to love a guy who parlays student loan money into buying a mid-year. Only in America. I laughed for five minutes reading this post. A man after my own heart.

Look through your old paperwork on it - if you had the Owner Protection Plan book it should be in there for example. You'd be looking for 40837S1xxxxx . It's a long shot but once in a while somebody DOES find a car they used to own.

That’s interesting. I had this car at Clarkson College from 1971 - 1973. There were 2 other silver C2 coupes at the time. One was a ‘63 fuelie. I meant that there were 3 C2 silver coupes up at the dormitories. It was so bitterly cold in the morning. My Vette was one that dependably started, I guess the engine was a little loose.

Super interesting story! Sure makes me feel lucky as in January of this year I bought my first Corvette... 50 years ago. It's still sitting in my garage today and I do try to drive it as often as possible.

I have had my 68 for over 50 years also. I lived in Brooklyn and drove the car on the NY Throughway and the "Quickway" . I also dated a girl that went to school in SUNY Binghamton. Once while visiting it got so cold that my battery froze and I had to thaw it out and had it charged to get home. I still have the old NY tags hanging in the garage. My 68 is a touchstone to the past. Jerry

...have had my '62 since 1967: FIFTY - FOUR years! People at Cruises always say "Haven't you had it long enough? Don't you think someone else would like to own it?"...but NOBODY makes an offer or names a price! Ron
