My 1962
I have been here a year, learning much about C1 and C2 Corvettes. This is the car I purchased. Not being much of a writer or shutterbug this may not work out. But I must try to contribute this forum which has been quite informative and entertaining.
I have been riding motorcycles for over thirty years and they do not catch my fancy like they used to, so thought I would get a car. My first thought was to buy a 1966-69 SOHC Pontiac Firebird, or Tempest. Slim pickings in the the couple of months I searched. The prices were higher than I anticipated, for a weird powertrain that would be hard to sell(in my opinion). A couple of ratty C1's were in showing up in my searches. Not someone who knows much about Corvettes, I started doing research, mostly on this forum. Without repeating common knowledge, I got pulled in to the C1 vortex.
First look.

Welcome to the forum & Corvette world
I restored a SOHC Firebird before I got my first C1 corvette. I love taking it to a car show & open the hood. More people stand around looking at it than most other higher quality cars.
I love my corvettes, but will always have a soft spot for the OHC6.

Thanks for the kind words.
The car was owned by the owner since 1968. It was a Fuelie car at that time, but damaged. The NOM is a 1968 CE 376HP motor with a solid lifter LT1 cam. T10 transmission which is wide ratio and 4:11 posi rear end. Induction was an aluminum Winter manifold with a 650 Holley carb. Mallory dual point distributor, factory alloy valve covers are some other features. The big plus is the car was undercoated when new. so the frame is solid but that roofing tar is still gummy and messy. The funky starbursts got to go.
The carpet was the nicest part of the interior which the owner said was only 5 years old. Probably not accurate. After some serious cleaning, the carpet is now almost as sad as the dash pad.

There is more room in the 62 then the other C1's so if you are a big guy you will appreciate that. Just make sure the vin plate is securely spot welded to the steering column. It being in the engine bay it is subject to a lot of heat and weather. If it falls off, it's gone. And so is 25% or more of the value of your car, plus the trouble of getting a state issued tag.

That is one very cool car. On the exterior, I would change only the tailpipes if it were mine, which obviously it isn't. I'd probably even keep the funky sunbursts. That car is a time capsule, period piece.
Congrats on the acquisition. Keep the photos coming as you make it what you want it to be.

Absolutely like it as is! The only problem I see is there are not enough miles on the odometer. I think you should jump in, turn the key, and start taking care of that!

We all have different tastes, me, I’m a period correct guy, if it were mine, and I wanted to keep the hot rod look, which is cool, with the stripes etc., I’d probably put some torque thrusts (“mags”) on it, and a correct hood.
PS: 4.11s.... my kinda gear , and with the wide ratio... a blast!

I looked at this car in Columbus, the guy told me he had it so long he painted it 3-4 times himself. Nice old car, I couldn’t pull the trigger, but glad you did, enjoy!

Thanks again for the kind words. I bought the car back in May 2020 and drove it till late June when the motor started knocking. It has been off the road ever since. Put about 1,000 miles on it before that happened. Some of the best fun I have ever had on 4 wheels, even when I wasn't breaking the law.
Originally the car was white. Later it was painted gold then lavender with white lattice work on the hood. As we are working on the car, we found the body was sanded between coats of paint. The door jams and undersides of the hood and convertible hatch were just pained over. Yuck. The doors were dragging on the thick layers when opening and closing. Tons of overspray of the lavender, some gold and some silver(the final color). Silver and paint stripes are over sprayed on the rubber seals. The previous owner had the car since 1968 and a lot can happen in that time frame, as will share.

Always cool to see another '62 on the road!
I'm a sucker for the old school stuff. Looks like a fun old hot rod Corvette!
Let us know what you find with the engine. Hoping it's an easy fix for you.
