Butch,
The ONLY spring shop that ever existed in the Okla City area, City Spring at Main and Western, is now long out of the custom spring business. I have NO CLUE where you might look in the local Okla area. At one time, those guys went WAAAAAAAAY back to the 1930s-40s, could make almost any kind of spring and had a big furnace. What was left of City Spring moved out on west Reno (west of Council) but I think they farm out any spring work to some place out of state.
Are you still involved with airplane salvage?

That's what I've found with so many local shops in both the OKC and KCMO area Tom. Even if the old shop is still in business, they have a new generation of mechanics, and no one cared to get the knowledge from the old guys, before the changing of the guard. Several local shops have offered to do work for me (I'm doing the springs), but they've never worked on a C-1 and that bothers me. I can't even find knowledgeable SB Chevy guys.
"No" on the aircraft parts Tom, I retired in August 2019 and my kids don't seem to need/want any help, which works for me as I'm enjoying retirement. If they ever need me, I'm here for them, but I think they want to do it on their own.

If you're going to do any custom re-arching then Eaton is who you want, they do it properly with the correct annealing: And if you do rearch them installation can be a challenge (see second article).

Thanks so much Frankie!!! I did brief glimpse at the Eaton write up and it looks fabulous, just no time to read it now. I'll also read the 2nd article with the re-arching challenge. It seems as soon as you think your "got it" there's always something to complicate matters.
-------
Update: I couldn't wait to read this info, so told the wife dinner just had to wait.
Okay, now I really need some clarification. Why did Joe's re-arched springs deal him such a fit? Whenever spring discussions come up on this forum, everyone says to re-arch/condition your springs instead of buying new, that way you don't lose the grooved leaves which are not longer available. So, what did Joe do differently? Will his fabricated equipment be need to reinstall them on a fully assembled car?

Butch,
Did you see the videos of our (FINALLY) first flight about 3mo ago? No flights since then, because we are chasing a few gremlins (mainly, left engine magneto).

Thanks Frankie, I will hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
Was there too much arch put in the springs and that's why they didn't fit up?

Nope, it's a RIGHT magneto for a P&W 2800-79 with GE mags.

I've lost the emails, but still have the photos you sent with the body off Pat, fantastic car. But, I don't think this is something that can be accomplished with the body on or I would learn more about it. I've forgotten, how does it ride?

Let me give this some thought. I've lost my contacts to the guys who played with these motors as those I knew retired, died off or both. Up through the early 2000's Bill Duff (Duff A/C Salvage) in Denver had tons of these parts, but Bill has been gone a long time now. He had warehouses full of vintage and Warbird parts not far from Stapleton airport and always said these parts would be gold one day.

That sounds great. I guess the question is can this be installed with the body on? I see a company named Helix makes a 4 link coil over bolt on suspension, but not sure we're comparing apples to apples. Looks like something to beef up a leaf spring suspension, rather than a replacement.

The four link system is a stand alone rear suspension for your Vette. Both the springs and shocks are adjustable for ride height and stiffness. Both should be rated for the weight of your car,
the four link can be installed with the body on and some welding is requires.

Does anyone sell this system as a kit or did you buy components and build your own?

No, he isn't, which is a real loss, because his products are tried and accepted. I've found a company called Helix, just not sure of the quality. They offer both IFS and 4-link system and seem to lean towards classic trucks and other classic cars, but do offer a C-1 kit.
