I had seen the BluePrint Engines building from the road before and knew it looked like a pretty big place...but once you get inside you really see how huge the place actually is. They manufacture dyno tested crate engines all the way from a factory replacement small block to an 800+ hp tall deck 632ci big block chevy! This particular video is just the factory floor and engine building process itself. There will be several more videos to come from the time I spent here including one just on the Engineering / R&D department. The amount of technology and OEM quality testing conducted within this facility is far beyond anything I had anticipated before coming here. It really blew my mind just about everywhere we went inside the building!
Dynos can be misleading, this topic has been discussed several times, one dyno says 500 and another says 435, apples to oranges. Unless you can dyno both engines on same type machine, well you get the picture. I've had a 383 blue print motor in my 62 for 10 years now, love it, with a Tremec 5-speed it is the best of both worlds!
The video is quite impressive and has changed my mind a little bit. When looking at other videos they never show much actual machine equipment which made me question where that amount of work was being done. Pretty nice for a guy starting with nothing.
As far as dyno numbers there are ***** on the panel you can turn an instantly change the numbers. There is a calibration procedure that you can alter to make as much power as you want. It will then show this on every engine until the calibration is changed. I know a lot of shops post hp numbers but I also know of at least one that will not give out any numbers.
I chuckle at the new term "Crate Engine" - just a few years ago they were still called "rebuilt" or 're-manufactured'.
! realize some are good performance builds and are good deals as well as good performers, but marketing gets involved way more today.
Agree with the dyno statement...So many dyno sheets are bogus & the owners have no idea.
ET/MPH is what interests me. Nothing like a handbuilt well balanced piece, thats something crate motors wont get (all the attention to detail) but also why they are cheap
Neighbor has a 350HO in his 69 Firebird for what it is, pretty strong running engine.
What I like is all of its brand new.
I would caution this, they sell what the buyer wants. If you want cheap they'll sell it. If you want good they sell it. Don't buy a cast crank just because it saves a few hundred bucks.
