Under the drivers seat jewels. An unsmoked Kent filter cigarette (tossed) and this collection of forgotten items. Quarter is a 65.
Behind the body bolt access cover was someones old bubble gum and a carpet clipping from the production line from the birthday carpet.
What other things might one find on these treasure hunts?

We had a thread a couple years back about items found under the seats, behind the carpet etc. Or maybe that was about what was found in the glove box. In my C-4 I found a guy's high school ID card, which he said was odd because he didn't get the car until long after leaving school. Lots of stuff in my '64, strangest thing was a .38 special cartridge.

That most likely is not bubble gum but dried sealer putty used in the construction of the bird cage.

I found weird contact switches under the seats of my '61, Al Knock himself examined them at an NCRS meet when getting the seats recovered, maybe a burglar alarm, but that didn't make sense as both seats were rigged that way - never figured it out. They appeared to be designed to detect when someone sat on either of the two seats.
In my days on my Dad's used car lot I saw it all, women's panties (I hope they were women's anyway), used prophylactics, dead rodents and a S&W .38 pistol which had turned out to be used in a robbery...
The dessicated food, girly magazines, occasional money, and crushed beer cars were too common to even mention...

Best find of my car life was a Leatherman. Still have it from almost 30 years ago. Normal finds are mummified McD’s French fries, corroded pennies, and loose screws (under the seat, not behind the wheel).

I had a joint (marijuana cigarette) fall out of the dash of my old 68 Corvette. It certainly was period correct.

25 years ago, neighbor across the street bought a '57 Bel Air 4 door hardtop. It needed some work, but not terrible.
The green and white **** carpet on the floor was so 1973, as were the numerous condom wrappers and beer can pull tabs under the carpet and seats and several roaches in the carpet.
Not the insect kind of roaches.

Melting Slicks
I found this 1930's-1940's Keen Kutter among the leaves and debris in the side air chamber of my 67. Also had some grease soaked "roaches" under the ash tray area.

When I rebuilt my 1966 and got it on the road, I could only move the temperature **** on the heater to the midpoint of the door travel. In winter, I would go halfway through before finally getting the temperature **** past the midpoint of travel. Then, it would fail to move back the other direction until midway through the summer. Freeze half the winter, and burn up half the summer. So, I reluctantly pulled the heater housing to determine the source of my problem.
When I removed the housing and turned it upside down, a Zippo lighter with and engraving of the Navy ship and the words "MSO Avenge" were on the lighter. As I remember while researching, these were only sold in the ships store for any particular Navy ship. The car came from the Mississippi gulf coast and was owned at one point by a Navy guy before passing through several other sets of owners. A Navy friend told me that MSO stood for Mine Sweeper, Oceanic, and in his opinion wasn't a choice assignment. They travelled across the ocean and due to size didn't fare nearly so well as the larger ships, not to mention that they had none of the amenities of the larger vessels (pool tables, movie theatres, libraries, etc.). I still have the lighter in a display case in my basement.

Thanks for your input Don.
The existing carpet is dark blue and foam backed. The interior code is 414 bright blue. So we know the original carpet was replaced.
This scrap I'm told, is common how the production line would cut out the carpet for the seat bolt holes.
I thought someone would challenge the gum.

Years ago I was in the trucking business. I had a small fleet of Mack R model tractors pulling dump trailers. One of the jobs I got was hauling fluff from Camden Iron and Metal in Camden NJ to Hagerstown Md. Fluff is all the non metal in a vehicle, seats plastic carpet etc. During the trip from Camden to Hagerstown the heavier pieces would work their way through the load and end up on the floor of the trailers. My trailers had a 1 1/2 '' lip right before the rear door. So when we got to Hagerstown we would dump the fluff and what would end up against the lip was a good bit of the change that had been in the cars !! Using gloves and a bag we would collect the change in some cases a couple of dollars worth and in one case a Krugerand and another a still working Timex watch It takes a licking and keeps on ticking !!! The guys at the scrap yard told me they paid for their Christmas party every year with the change they collected from the wrecked cars. The stuff did stink to high heaven !!! -- Ken
