hood clearance 1961 corvette
I put a new edlebrock avs carb on a friends small block 61 vette with edlebrock performer intake manifold. I had to use a 3/4 inch spacer under the air cleaner base to clear the electric choke. the problem is it is rubbing the bottom of the hood. anyone know of a air cleaner made to fit this carb and car? Edlebrock has a triangle shaped one it says it clears electric chokes but its expensive I hate to buy it if it won't clear.

What air cleaner does the car have now? The stock type, or some after market one?
The stock cleaner is pretty low profile, and if the Edelbrock carb needs the larger air cleaner base hole like Holley, you can use a ~'65-'67 Pontiac base/air cleaner, which looks just like stock C1 cleaner.

I also added a phenolic spacer, but I don't recall the exact height of the spacer I used (1/4" - 1/2" ???).
I used a 1 5/8"drop base with a WIX 46037 element which is 2 5/8" high and a Mr. Gasket nearly flat top air cleaner lid. That setup gives me one full inch of air flow above the airhorn. The only thing I had to do was dimple the base a little bit to clear the choke cover housing.
I have about 5/8" clearance at the narrowest point between the air cleaner and the hood.
