My first car in high school in the mid 60's, Dad gave me his '54 Belair 9 pass station wagon, I couldn't be too picky back then since it was free. It originally was a medium green with a cream colored roof......ugh.
Threw on a (literally) $29.95 Earl Schieb paint job, found some chrome wheels, took out the middle seat, left the rear seat in.....and my senior year party wagon was born, had some fun in that.......

This photo was taken yesterday on a run up to Idyllwild, CA. For non-locals, it's a quaint little town in the mountains south of Palm Springs at 5500 feet elevation.
Something about the color and tone of this photo makes it look like a old photo, so I thought I'd share it here.

Could be 2020, could be 1961.

Cars from the "Good Old Days"
My first car in 1966 was a 1962 Impala Super Sport.....then in 1969 was a 65 Corvette.....Great times back then.
First car...15 yrs old...$775.00
Second car 65 Vette...$1800.00
Glass City Corvette Club Pennant...Toledo Ohio
Those were the good old days
purchase in 1965 when I was 15 yrs old
1969..had it stripped and painted for $500.00 back then
Glass City Corvette Club Toledo Ohio
Removed the front bumper...fill 2 holes with "Road Runner" side marker lights

It's not a Corvette, but it is a Chevy.
This is what a case of beer and a college weekend does in 1965.

Shelby-ized '66 Mustang, Born-with 289. I flogged this car unmercifully on the street and at weekend auto-cross events in the early 80s. In the mid-90s, I drove it between Leonardtown, MD and Chesapeak, Va every weekend to my job in Maryland for two years; never once let me down. Snow, sleet, rain, oppressive heat, etc. 3-1/2 hour trip one way.
So much for reliability !

Young man, black t shirt, obligatory cigarette, has the swagger of James Dean or Steve McQueen.

First Vette, in 1968. 300hp, 4 spd, radio, that's all. Had just returned from working most of a year on an oil rig in offshore Alaska, saved $7,000, saw this on a fly-by-night lot with a bunch of unsellable Shelby Mustangs, overpaid at $4,000 but was happy as a clam in Hollywood CA.
