Default Help identify part found in valley under intake manifold

I found this interesting part today in the valley under my '67's SBC L75 327 intake manifold after removal. The intake was removed by a service mechanic 4 years ago when new gaskets were installed. The best way to describe it is it looks like a miniature Darth Vader helmet with a round pin just above the helmet's bill/brim. It's 15mm long; the hat portion is 5mm and the shaft is 10mm. On the shaft on opposite sides protrudes keys that might slide into slots. I'm very interested to know if it came off a tool being used while the car was being serviced, or off a component of the car's intake or carburetor.

That pic is way to small to get any detail from it. I blew it up on my computer and it looks like a non-Corvette/automotive part to me. Maybe part of a tool your mechanic may have dropped in the valley when he worked on it. I would say that I have never seen that part on any Chev motor in all my years. Maybe someone else has, but not this old fart!

Just be thankful it didn't migrate anywhere to where it did any damage.

Kerrmudgeon, you're one to talk about small pics. Do realize, I run out of screen size blowing up your avatars!

I checked the underside of the intake manifold, it's steel, and not aluminum, this morning, and yes it is a rivet/pin that secures the heat shield to the underside of the manifold. I found scrape marks on the heat shield around the area where the rivet came out of which indicates to me either the manifold was "gently" dropped into place upon re-installation, or after the manifold was removed it was handled improperly.

To prove I have no shame I'm leaving my post up so others will know the answer to an obvious question following removal and initial inspection procedure; "Did you look on the underside of the intake manifold for a missing rivet?" "No!"
