Default A Night at Dragway 42

I recently moved to within eight miles of Dragway 42 in West Salem, OH, so I had to roll down there for a test and tune. I recently installed a C3BX and fresh Holley 650 DP on my internally unknown 350 truck motor. Despite rusty launch skills and a high rpm misfire I managed a 13.65 ET. I think the misfire is probably due to my worn single point distributor. I was supposed to meet my son and his friends there with his twin-turbo Skyline, but they were a no-show, so I also had to make the passes with my tool box and cooler in the car. I really expected to be in the 14.0s, so I was pleased with the result. My last pass I ran against a late model Mustang GT and our ETs were only 0.0007 sec apart with me playing catch-up after a weak launch. That was an exciting pass!

Very cool, love the patina and team stripes!

I find it very satisfying when people drive their corvettes for their personal pleasure, regardless of the wear and tear. Well done!

Initially I put those stripes on with blue painters tape to see if I would like them. I did, so I rattle canned them on and distressed to match the rest of the body.

Great looking pic of the car launching. I raced there many years ago. I heard they have made many improvements since then.

Swept57...whole lotta things cool about your post....If I lived that close to drag strip, I would tailor my car to bracket type racing... that is so fun. You did a respectable job. And you story is cool.....with moderate effort, you could be in the 12's and that is what you can respectably shoot for. Have fun.

Mid 13s? IMCO nothing rusty about that. Well done. I'm guessing lots of fun too.

That's COOL ! That means you aren't too far from Quaker City Raceway. The United Manual Transmission Racers are having an event there on the 22nd. Come on out and race with me ! The Street Stick class runs on a dial in, it's a lot of fun and a good group to run with..

The new owner bulldozed the entire old facility and rebuilt it as a state-of-the-art track. It's really nice. They have yet to build up the concessions, but the track itself is great.

Man, I would do that, but headed out on 22 to CA for my daughter's wedding.

Very nice, sounds like your unknown 350 is well built. Can you share what tranny and rear end are in your car. That is fast for a nearly stock car.

Is it not spinning a lot through first? 13.65 takes decent power and those are pretty small tires. Very respectable time.

No, it hooked up really well. I am running P255/60R15 Cooper Cobra G/Ts on the rear. The motor is clearly not stock, but I don't know what all has been done to it. On the street, when I go through the gears, I usually shutdown right after I hit third. This was the first time I ran it all the way up. I was really surprised by how hard it pulled in 3rd and 4th. I also had ditched the spare and tire tub.

It is the stock BW T10 and I don't know what rear end gears it has, but now I am curious so I'll check.

I like the ''original'' 63 thumb screw master cylinder. Your engine looks like 1965 at the drags.

Thanks, that is what I was going for! The filtered breathers are part of my PCV system.

Stick cars being raced are about 1000 times more cool than automatic cars, IMO. A totally visceral experience that takes a whole lot more skill. Could watch these old stick cars race all day long. Screw high tech!

Remember going to Dragway 42 back in the day, 60's 70's. Watched Arfons cook a banner reading "Welcome to Dragway 42" We always felt anything running under 14 seconds was pretty strong on the street, yep, the go old days, glad to hear its going again.
