Sorry, I'm afraid I was stepping on the original posters question. I'll save mine for another day.

After a bit more digging online look what I found! The newspaper article detailing the arrest of the kid who stole this car out of the dealership garage!!! From all accounts this person is still alive and I secured his contact info. Now here’s a REAL interesting question.....should I call him, and what should I ask him? Better yet, what if he tells me he still has all the original stuff he took off the engine!!!

OK, 1968 is 52 years ago so the guy is 74. Hopefully he has mended his ways so it's worth a shot. (or maybe that's the wrong term to use! )

If you don’t try to call, you will always wonder what could have been. Worse case he tells you to pound sand. I would contact him as you have nothing to lose.

Of course post what you learn here!

By all accounts he lives about 70 miles from me. I should go see him and pull up in this Vette that he boosted 52 years ago.

If you do, be sure to hang on to the keys.

last time he didn’t need the keys either . I said I could go along and record the meeting. As the video could go viral. Most old car owners meet the original buyer but never meet the guy who stole the car

This is a great story for car guys. Reminds me of the buried Dino Ferrari in Southern California in 1978. I hope you are able to connect up and speak to the guy that stole the car, then fill us in with the details.

Sfter I tracked down my original owner (it was hard, he had a common name) he responded to my mail with “who the hell are you?”

Then we got on the phone and he was the coolest guy ever.

Quick Reply: What would you ask the original owner??? Ok
