Default 66 Coupe Battery Hold Down

I have somewhat of a dumb question. On the original hold down, which side does the end plate face, towards the engine or the side vent?

Default Battery Hold Down Heat Deflector

If this is the end plate you're referring to...

...I believe that acts a heat deflector from the exhaust manifold to help the battery live a little longer.

So, if you had not asked, would it be OK to laugh at you when you put it in wrong? That would be really dumb. No dumb questions.
