Growing up as a Chevy Kid, it has always been the small block and big block Chevy's for me....... Though, there are some others that make me stop and look.......

One of those is the 'Cammer'.......

What's yours?

I couldn't agree more. I had an opportunity to drive one many years ago and it is an experience I will never forget.

My friends Hemi. Although I prefer the 66 - 68 chrome air cleaner version a bit more. Still an impressive engine.

I've worked on a lot of engines over the years. Back in the day I did a fair number of valve jobs on Boss 429s. I've never laid eyes on an SOHC. And don't forget the 426 Hemi to me probably the most iconic American made engine. And this little project I've been working on, the beginnings of all things hot rod.

BOSS 302 (This was mine had 12 to 1 pistons, headers and accel dual point.) Pretty snappy little small block!

Here's an article and an old ad for a Fredrick's Rail that was sold back in the day! Had a Cammer in it! I'd like to see one today but most likely the motors were separated from the cars when they became worth a fortune!

Agreed with others on the 426 Hemi.......

With all of my years racing, the one constant was the motor, based off of the 426 Hemi. Aluminum blocks from Keith Black, JP-1 and Brad Anderson, billet aluminum heads from Walt Austin and Brad Anderson that are machined jewelry...... 14/71 roots blowers and then the PSI screw blower that makes close to 65 pounds of boost at 10,200 rpm...... 44amp mag to keep everything lit.......

I have no idea, just saw the picture, and liked it.....

On the subject of Cammer motors, there was a local Speed Shop guy, and racer, Jim Green, who had a number of Cammer motors...... One of which in a front motor dragster, another in a pulling truck that Jim competed with, and also one in a '34 Ford Phaeton that had a flip up body, similar to a Funny Car...... Speaking of Funny Cars, Jim owned the Green Elephant Funny Car, which was one of my favorites when I was a kid.....

The Jaguar 3.8L Dry Sump DOHC in the D-Type. That sound ! It's like a finely tuned sewing machine.

My first encounter with a SOHC 427 was at Ed Pinks engine shop, watching a Technician thread the long, long, long, cam chain through the sprockets and indexing the timing marks.

This engine modified for road racing was the one I wanted to see in a Mk-IV GT40 (reliable 8,500 rpm for miles at a stretch). I have been told the Boss 429 made better torque below 6,000 rpm, and similar power above 8,500, but the SOHC has simplicity where the original Boss 429 o-rings instead of head gaskets added trouble.
