Default Electric Exhaust Cutouts

I'm planning on installing some Quick Time Performance Electric Exhaust Cutouts on my 64 L76 coupe and am looking for input.

Does anyone have pictures of the same/similar application on their C2?
Has anyone made this mod (without the common sidepipe option) and what do you think?
Where do you think would be best to mount the cutouts?
What is your opinion of QTP vs other vendors? This is the brand that gets the best reviews from the shops and they have a impeccable warranty/replacement policy. .

Thanks for your time.

My buddy installed those on his pristine 1971 Dodge Challenger 340 4 speed. His engine is very strong and he installed right behind the headers., He has a custom 3" exhaust with an X pipe that sounds great through his mufflers.

He likes the cut outs and likes to open them as he rolls into certain gatherings. Personally, I don't like them, seems more like a boy toy thing but each to their own.

His have worked as described, I think they are 5 years old now.

Good input and thanks. I agree, they can be a bit obnoxious. The attention is not my motivation. I'm more thinking about that straight pipe sound echoing off the canyons walls on mountain drives.

Have a friend who installed a different brand on his '69 GTO. The plastic gears inside the units melted from the exhaust heat in fairly short order. They were expensive as hell, too. Shop carefully. I second the notion that to me at least, it seems like putting cards in the spokes of a bicycle....

I'll agree they are of no use or appeal on a Corvette but they do come in handy in other circumstances. These are 12 years old and have not melted, wiring is protected by heat wrap.

I would like to be able to open the headers on my 62 at the track when it is finished, but unless you have a set of cutouts, either with a plate that you have to crawl under the car to remove or use the electric setup, there is no room to move the exhaust out of the way. So I am in the camp of I can see a use for them

For a weekend drag car or other racing competition, they would be great. I used to drive a car (71 Vega) to the track and then have to swing the pipes to the side, yep PIA.

Had a pair of cutouts on a 55 Chevy when I was real young and it got a lot of attention - from the local police officers. I think if you want an open exhaust on a corvette, get side pipes. You could probably sell your radio to fund them as it is hard enough to hear without an open exhaust.

Of course, I found out today that I am really old when I tuned into my favorite 'OLDIES' station and they were playing music from the 80s and 90s that I used to yell at my kids to turn down.
Golden Years my Azzz.

Do what you want, it is your car and you are only as young as others will let you feel.

I happen to like them and for several different reasons, one reason is for the noise you can make, QTP makes a quality piece, I have installed them is several cars but not a C2, do you have Headers or factory Ram Horns, either way your looking for straight pipe behind the collector before the pipes enter the frame, pretty tight but doable.

Don't know if it was because I grew up in the Texas oilfield, but the material everybody used around here then to make our own cutouts was either 2" or 2 1/2" pipe nipples about 4-6" long, with screw on pipe caps we called em 'dumps' welded the into the lead pipes under the exhaust manifolds right where they turned back towards the back Very very few people had headers

Yep, same here, on a 57 Bel Air in the early '60's. Great fun!
