Cut and Buff old paint
What a huge difference it makes to cut and buff an old lacquer paint job from the 90's...The individuals name was Cristian from JD Collision Express here in San Antonio. A young kid who is a true professional at what he does. The best part is he came over to my house and did the job. He started out with 3000 grit then 5000 grit then polished the paint. He only wanted $200.00 but I gave him $300.00 because he did such an amazing job. Cristian was able clean up all the orange peel and oxidation. Just amazing!!!
While Cristian worked on the Vette that gave me the opportunity to pay a little attention to the my old Camaro. I haven't had her out of the garage for 8 months so I'm sure she feels a little neglected.

I did the same thing with my 20 year old single stage lacquer on my black '64, it works as long as the paint is thick.

Your Corvette is certainly the beneficiary of a very talented young man that has passion for his craft.
I commend you for showing your appreciation for his efforts and your satisfaction for his work.
Well done on his and your part. Oh and your car looks great!

That is dirt cheap compared to shops here in houston...only 3 hours away from you. I needed another car done and everyone was over $1k.

An amazing bit of work by a real pro.....
It is Sooo easy to "burn through" old paint when buffing, especially on edges and ridges; it takes a deft touch to get results like that....
Of course now you'll have to suffer through the indignity of your car being called a "glazed ham"
Not sure what products you can use to "seal" old lacquer but I'd research it - those old finishes can re-oxidize pretty quickly.
I spent two days buffing out a maroon 63 Galaxie with original paint on my Dad's car lot, turned out gorgeous, and I swear it wasn't a month before it started to dull again...

I don't know on lacquer - on my single stage acrylic I've been using Klasse glaze/sealer but its so tough to remove that I just switched to...SONUS paint sealant which looks just as good when applied but comes off so easily you wonder how effective it really is...
No experience with ceramic - the whole hype around it has a "flavor of the month" aspect but maybe its really good stuff - can't say...

I can't remember the name of the product but Cristian told me he applied some type of sealant...He told me not to wash the car for 24 hours.
