'62 retirement project
I had a 1962 basket case Corvette that I bought in 1982 that I had put a 6-71 supercharger in it that is why I picked the name for this forum. I no longer have the car and I sold it to my uncle in 1986. Needing money to buy a frame straightening machine back then for an auto body shop, I sold the car and our shop was always still doing lots of work on the car and we painted it with 'House of Kolor' wild cherry. With a black metallic base, dark red and lots of clearcoat this car attracted a lot of attention specially with the blower whine that you can hear a block away. I had been trying to buy it back over the years with no luck. Been looking hard the last two years for a 1958 to a 1962 C1 Corvette knowing I was retiring in August 2018. I was looking for one that was not original as I wanted to do certain things to it but not have a blower this time around. As luck would have it, a friend of ours who knew I was looking for a '62 texted me and said he had a lead on one and it was in Scappoose,Oregon three hours away from where I live. Took a look at the car and liked it, gave a deposit and the owner started putting parts on the frame that same day and he bolted the body back on from the dolly it has been sitting on the next day after church. He had a car hauler and we agreed that I would take delivery in two weeks and June 1st, I'm a proud owner of a retirement project, a 1962 Corvette.
took delivery on June 1st

I bought this as a project 8 years ago from Kennewick off of Craig's list. I really really didn't like sending that kind of money across the country to someone I didn't know for something I had only seen pics of. I did do as much of a background check as I could before hand. 2 1/2 years to build it, LS, 4L60E, vintage air, Dakota Digital gages.

Feeling guilty taking over someone else's project but the previous owner is moving back to Henderson, Nevada and that's where my old '62 is at now! The guy also retired in August of last year like myself.
His finished small block 1966 Corvette coupe he bought last year is already in Henderson. He bought the '62 from a Filipino guy 30 years ago in Redwood City,CA and sold it to another Filipino!
He didn't have to pull the car hauler back to Oregon as my buddy bought it after I sent him pictures of it! Good deal for all
my buddy now has a nice hauler for the bulletnose Studebaker we finished last year.

That's my part of the country, Tri-Cities is in Eastern WA.
My late uncle was a drag racer and my first experience with muscle cars coming over from the Philippines was riding in his '67 GTO which he sold and got a '68 GTO w/ the rubber 'endura' front bumper! Only had around 8,000 miles when he sold it...a quarter mile at a time-other than some street cruising. Raced E-stock class running 12.00's, fast at the time!
I want to eventually run an LS engine in the '62 with a matching 6speed auto trans. Wondering if this would need some type of preparations now for the transmission tunnel, firewall etc? I'm guessing the engine will need wiring with some type of computer?
Just finishing to clear out a spot in our little storage building next block from the body shop so I can pull the '62 body off and set on a dolly. Any recommendations for the dolly mounting?

You might want to take a drive down to Norcal. I have lots of small parts leftover that you can use. I would rather see the parts to to use for someone's project. Very cool to see another 62 on the road.

My '62 still has rear fender flares that I want to remove and I have new pieces (4), and two bonding strips that came with the car. I like the look of stock fenders and the previous owner was going to have Corvette Images in Oregon make a mold to have 2" wide fenders like the GTS which is 1 1/2". I'm thinking of doing a mini tub and either way, there is only a few inches to gain so I have time to think it over.

Yep that is far and away our favorite event of the year. People complain about the traffic and I hate traffic but for this one week I enjoy it. But you better have your cooling system completely ironed out before you show up.

Last year about this time VRBO canceled my rental and refunded my money. I was not a happy camper. It's very difficult to find a house this late in the year. We stay 8 days. I guess you don't have to worry about all of that. Look us up. I met a forum member there year before last.

I should have called this 'the budget build'.Check out the wood floor on the building. There's no room at the body shop for projects!
After 4 weeks of sitting outside in our parking lot, I finally cleared enough space to put the car inside the building.
Been trying to dial in my powder coating equipment and took delivery of a 4'x4'x6' powder coat oven which I also need to make room for in a shipping container hobby space.
