I just shipped my car from Tucson, AZ to Bethlehem, PA with Intercity. I highly recommend them. They were reasonably priced, exceptionally professional and were able to pick up the car for delivery within a matter of days.

I just used Reliable at Barrett Jackson in January. Was very happy.
Id also recommend Passport Transport. Good result multiple times.

For a 78 GMC I'd recommend without question open transport arranged by Angels Moving Autos. http://www.angelsmovingautos.com
I've used them twice for daily driver cars in open transport, and once in enclosed trailer for my three classics. No issues, prompt, professional haulers.
You'll save lots of coin over the big name transport companies mentioned above.

I used Intercity to transport my 57 across the country. Very good communication from start to finish, and they have their own drivers. Don’t use a “ broker “ who merely uses the lowest bidder.

I've had great results using Reliable several times and highly recommend them. Depending on the truck's paint condition I might consider open transport with a reputable company. As others have said, be very careful of the low budget brokers!

Used "Perfection Transportation Services" out of Atlanta, GA on my last car from San Antonio area to OKC. Excellent job, 2 car enclosed trailer, nice owner/driver and I believe the cost was around $500.

I used Intercity to transport a 1940 Ford Couple back to NC from the end of Route 66 in Ca. I was very pleased with the entire transaction. They were also the only carrier I found at that time that would arrange to meet on a specific day and time. Other carriers would give a window of days but Intercity met us when we needed them to pick the car up. That was important for us because we had finished the trip and were flying home. Good luck!

You know the interesting thing I learned when I needed my car moved. I spoke to all the major carriers listed above, but since the move was from Texas to OK none of them covered that route. They all seem to cover the entire east coast and some east to west, but once you get in the midwest it becomes harder to find a carrier. Dealer suggested the one I used and they use them all the time as well.

Have used Intercity, Reliable and Passport. The best was Passport. From start to finish they treat you like a valued customer. Intercity was the worst. They took my cars and damaged one because they shuffled the load of cars 2 times in transit. Reliable was just ok.
Talk to all the companies before you hire them. Ask questions.

I want to thank everyone who responded to my request. I signed a contract about 10:30 am and the truck was picked up around 6:30 pm. I went through a broker. Read alot of reviews about transportors and brokers. I gained a lot of respect for used car salesman and ambulance chasers. I sure opened a can of worms by going on the internet. About 40 phone calls and 30-35 e-mails. If we would of had the time I think my grandson and would of been better off to drive across country and do a little bonding.
Anyway Thanks again,
Dennis
