Default Grille

Imagine my surprise the other day when I was cleaning up the car and found that the whole grille assembly was just rattling around in the opening. Three of the four brackets that fasten to the inner fenders had broken their rivets and were hanging loose, and the fourth had lost the mounting bolt to the grille. I got all of that put back together. My question is -- how is the long round arm that serves as the center bracket supposed to attach to the header panel? It doesn't seem like a bolt would work, the metal in the header panel is too thin to get more than a one-or-two thread grip. And I can't see getting a nut on the backside, or using some kind of a rivet. The hole is about 1/4" in diameter.

His profile says 66 coupe. I don't have an answer right now, but will be monitoring the thread to see any responses.

I have the same issue. I'm going to be installing a RivNut in the hole as it is wallowed out and won't retain the original 1/4" bolt. I'm going to be doing some other mechanical stuff to the car, so I'll be removing the hood (which will make the RivNut install much easier).

Hint: Use an ALUMINUM Riv-Nut, not a steel one - the aluminum ones are MUCH easier to install (see article below) and don't require the special tool.
