Believe it or not that is not correct. It's the large ring around the outside that focuses it. I have pictures to prove it if you would like me to post them. I thought the same thing until I did the tests on it. Covering the small dent will not do anything.

[QUOTE=Reeseb;1598898392]I haven't taken my car to many shows yet but, since I added an original teak wheel, I've started to worry about theft. If someone knew what they were doing, they could have that wheel off in 5 minutes. I thought about finding some torx screws to help prevent theft.[/QUOTE. I’ve never heard of anyone losing a steering wheel! Ray

Now isn't that what car shows are for? My Grandson Finn was visiting Poppy at his favorite local car show. That smile say's it all. Even though we live in upstate NY, I've never has any problems with theft or even nasty attendee's. Ice Cream for everyone !!!

And I always love the look on their faces when given that opportunity. Usually, mom or dad it there to snap a picture.

Ive done the same, I even let their mom and dad have seat in it. I’m just promoting the hobby.... Fun for all...

I have let people sit in my corvettes when I had C2's and C3's but I won't do it with the 57 just because it is too tight and I can imagine the damage happening to the stainless trims on the door jambs from clumsy feet . I have instructed my wife on that situation when getting in and out .

This is my Grand Nephew: If you see him, keep the doors locked, and make sure the keys aren't in it.

After getting a long streak of bubbles on the shiny side of my hood one day at show when the wind blew off a towel I had on the breather, I decided to make something to prevent it. I leaned the breather cover against a box and took a picture of the sun spot it reflected on a wall.

Then I taped a piece of paper over the center wing nut indent:

The spot didn't change:

Only by covering the outside lip did the spot go away.

Thats a different shape lid than what the later C2s (like my 67) have. In my experience with covering the center concave area on my lid the reflected spot disappears.

Understood.

IIRC, 66 and 67 use the same cover. I wasn’t aware the discussion was limited to 65 and earlier. My bad.

Hey Glenn, not all of us 65 owners need to worry about it.

Back on topic, I've probably gone to over 200 car shows over the years and I, nor anyone I know, have ever had an issue with theft or vandalism. Maybe it's related to the area of the country.

There were two air cleaners used on carbed small block cars in 1965, the twin snorklel on 250-300 h.p. and the 350-365 shared a different one. In 1966 I believe the same lid was used on all engines with an open element air cleaner. All of them have the same reflection problem.

Do they sell carb covers for the SB 327 '65?

I'm sure they do - I have a cover for my 63 dual snorkel air cleaner. However, I mistakenly put my 61 cover on the 63 by accident and it actually fit better.... Al long as the air cleaner circumference is stock and there is a lip for the cover's elastic to grab there is no reason they shouldn't work.

I would take my air cleaner to any custom upholstery shop and ask them to simply make a cover to match your interior or something that blends in with the full color scheme of your car.
Over the years I’ve had some really nice work done for boats, cars and custom motorcycles.
I even had a sail maker in Ventura, CA make me amazing towing covers and other custom items in the past.

Whoa now, this thread has certainly taken a tangent or five ...

So far the additional possibilities for theft seem to be:

Radio *****

Fuzzy Dice

Stuffed Animals

"Do Not Touch" Warning Signs

One might not realize if the battery is still hooked up at a car show so an OEM horn button could be another enticing quick lift. Or a very loud attempt.

I'm assuming the parts that could be quickly stolen, ones that don't require tools. One of those suction-cup tools could lift a set of OEM knock-off center caps but nobody's getting those spinners without a loud fight !

Engine oil fill caps could be quickly palmed.

Most of the stuff that I am listing are parts that could easily be left off of your car during a show (cigarette lighter) or substituted (a locking fuel cap, an air cleaner wing-nut from a hardware store) but those OEM dash ***** would concern me. Repro knock-off center caps are available in lieu of the OEM caps.

Battery must be disconnected and less than 1/4 tank of gas for inside LeConte Center showing. Fire Chief check the gas gauge before they permit you inside.

I wonder if they determine how much gas is in the tank by looking at the gauge. If so, my car could get in most any day <LOL>.
