Need quick input on value of 67 Roadster project
Hi guys--I could use some quick input to decide what is a fair price on a 67 project car I am looking at.
Here are some brief stats on the car.
-67 Marina blue roadser, black vinyl and black top
-Original paint
-1-owner car.
-Original engine scattered in the early 70's currently has a replacement motor with the original intake and distributor but the Holley is incorrect
-Frame is good sans minor rot in the end-cap on the passengers' side rail.
-Driver's side suffered minor crash damage when car was backed into by another car. Needs a new driver's door and quarter. Birdcage metal in the door striker area is untouched by the accident, but there is minor damage to to the side of the framerail under the lower rear corner of the drivers door. Looks like it could easily be straigtened and has not broken any welds. Doors both open and close fine and soft top latches, so I assume there is no "tweaks" in it.
-Car has no flairs and the original headlight equipment is there.
-Drivers side parking lamp panel needs replaced (hit something) and there are associated stress cracks radiating out from the driver-side hood corner that will need repair.
-Glass is good.
-Metal supports under the dash are all rust free. Could not find any signs of birdcage rust.
-20+ yrs of indoor storage.
-Has not been started or moved in 6 years
-Overall the car needs everything, but...
Is it worth the $10K asking price?
TIA

$10k? For real? I'd jump all over it at that price. The one thing you have to be sure of is whether or not you really want a total restoration project. The time and money really add up (I'm at seven years and have never driven my car). But $10k sounds like a killer deal, even with frame damage.

If you're satisfied that it's got "minor" rust problems, it's a good price, but you will need to fix just about everything. If you're building a daily driver it's feasible money-wise. If you're restoring for "Top Flight" originality........hmmmm......could get very pricey

Thanks for the quick input, gentlemen. It is very much appreciated. I spoke with the owner a couple hours ago and I told him I was still "thinking it over." His response seemed to indicate I may be able to get it for less than $10K. I guess I'll sleep on it tonight and jump tomorrow. :chevy

Sounds very similar to my project '66 small block roadster.
Stored since 1978, minor frame rust in kick up. No hit body,
although fender lips were trimmed. NOM ('65 327/365)
Earl Scheib 70's paint job. All there, needs to be gone thru.
Sounds like 10 is not out of the question for yours.
To give you an idea of the condition I purchased mine in...

Not yet, I'm thinking it may be better to buy a finished car instead. I didn't communicate with the owner yesterday, but I will post the contact info here for forum members if I decide to pass.

I agree if you're just planning on building a driver it's probably a good deal. Especially if you can do the glass/paint work and much of the mechanical work yourself. I also agree with 396 if you bring $100 bills it really, really, helps the negotiating process!!! I've bought cars in the past much cheaper than I probably should have been able to, simply by bringing cash money. Remember, every dollar you get knocked off the price will go towards parts!!!! Good luck and let us know what happens!!!

Thanks for the input, guys. We're still trying to work a deal. Thankfully, he has not advertised the car very much so I'm not having to compete very much. I will definitely keep you all apprised.

Re: Need quick input on value of 67 Roadster project (Nicky71)
Well, I think I have pretty much decided to pass on this 67. While it's a great project, I am going to take the winter to hunt down a "finished" 65-67 roadster. Once the excitement of finding this "diamond in the rough" wore off, I realized how long it would take me to finish the car and the fact that it would eventually cost as much as buying a restored car up front. With finance rates what they are (and the ability to enjoy the car right away), it just makes more sense for me to buy one that is done right.
If anyone is interested in pursuing this car, e-mail me and I will provide the owner's contact info. FYI, the car is located in the Chicago area.
