Transmission Numbers Question
Can anyone tell me what these trans numbers mean?
Both seem to be 1967 Muncies, both have the same main case # [3885010], but the patent # is different [3088330, 3088336].
Also, what do numbers 6 & 4 mean of the left. One of these trans is mine that's why I'm asking.

Maybe the 4, 6 are casting mold numbers. My source says the 3885010 Muncie could be a M-20, M-21, M-22. Dennis

I'm trying to figure out if my trans is original to the car, I've done all the research. The patent # I see on most '67s ends with a 36, mine ends with a 30.
My car was produced on March 27, 1967; the stamped date is March 10, 1967, which seems right.
The VIN stamp, in the picture, is questionable. The numbers ar right, the number between the 7 & 8 can't be seen. there are no signs of smoothing the surface for a re-stamp. Any opinions if the VIN stamp is from the factory???

To my untrained eye, the vin looks original and it looks like the gang holder was positioned too far to the right (pic orientation) and the 8 is deeper on one side. That left the next number high. Dennis

The vin number is certainly original. The last 8 was stamped into the casting at a place that was a little higher than the rest of the “pad” which caused the gang stamp to have light contact on the other numbers at that end. The number adjacent to the 8 did not make contact, the next number was light and each number after that was deeper in succession.
