Picked up a 61 a couple of weeks ago
I picked up a 61 a couple of weeks ago and have been busy sorting it out, Was a frame-off 15 year or so ago. Paint is still excellent and chassis was completely gone through. NOM motor( ZI 66 327
) that has been rebuilt, original trans and rear gone through. Has a hard top and a soft top frame. Bought new tires for it but waiting for back ordered 6"wheel vintiques which will be body color with poverty caps with wide whites. Took it for a 70 mile run today and it was abou 87 degrees. Ran cool. Lots of smaller things to do and some not so small.

Panel gaps look very nice; and its clean underneath for a driven car....congrats!
Leaf springs aren't original but if they work, leave 'em alone...
I might have gone for the round "off road" mufflers though.....best sound you'll ever hear...
Get yourself a flush mount power antenna (I did on my 61) or an original-style repro.....what's on there is the only thing that looks odd IMO

They serve a mechanical purpose - the splash shields are for cleanliness....

Welcome to the Forum, and Club '61! It looks a bit like my car when I started.... with the poverty caps and thin white walls!

Can't do anything about the wrong side. I have some wide whites waiting, 760 15, but I ordered some 6" wheel vintiques 62 series steelies with nubs and they are back ordered. They will be painted body color and I bought some bow tie poverty caps. I'd like to get a set of crossed flag poverty caps but haven't found any good ones yet. The wheels that are on it are repros that only accept caps that snap in not those that snap over the 4 nubs when present. I have a full set of original wheel covers but they woun't stay on the repro wheels even though they have the outer nubs.

The crossed flag poverty caps are a tad hard to come by - and many originals are dented up; but they do look cool.
These guys aren't picking your car apart but making suggestions - the car looks scrumptious...
I had 10s of 1,000s of trouble free happy driving in my 61 over 10 years of use...
At some point you'll want to look up a thread by me on here titled "C1 fuse points"; these cars are woefully unprotected as regards the electrical system - one of your first priorities for safe cruising IMO...

Frankie is right on about fusing. Put a 20 amp in the wire from the starter to the light switch...all power comes to that point and then goes back out from the dash to everything. Caught my 61 on fire about 35 years ago because of that circuit. Have blown that extra fuse many times, $10 fuse holder saves much work and heartache.
