Default C1 corvettes, what year is best

Looking to purchase a C1 corvette, what year was best. What problems should I look for when viewing a potential car?

Sorry, this is C6 General Discussion. You might want to ask in the C1 General Discussion group.

C1s are very different - what are you looking for? Best at what?

The technology is basically the same in all years, 1950 auto technology.

the 61 and 62 models do have 2-3 bigger cockpit area for longer legs or large bodies

How much does a fat dog weigh? You have to decide for yourself which you prefer. For me it HAD to have 4 headlights so that narrowed it down to 58-62. Second it HAD to have the coves painted a different color and the trim. That eleminated the 62. Lastly I was afraid, incorrectly that I might not like the rounded rear end after a while, so I went with the 61. I'll never regret that decision but had I chose the 58-60 I would have been just as happy. There's not a huge difference functionally so you just have to pick which is best for you.

The 61 is the first Corvette to have four tail lights and so every one since then has had 4 tail lights....
I wanted the 327 (e.g. a 62) but a strong 283 worked for me in my 61 - last year for different color coves and whitewall tires which I think "makes" the car... the 61s are fairly prolific with over 10,000 made so the chances of snagging one that meets your criteria are pretty good.

Uh - yeah ?!
They aren't always separated by a body strip but that's the way I see them...

If had the urge to buy a C1... I think it would be a 59 or 60...nothing wrong with the others, but I just love that 3 year period of the four headlight front end and the non-ducktail back end.
The '58 had too many one year only things for me...washboard hood, trunk spears, pebble grain interior...

C1s all have pretty much the same frame and running gear. The choices come down to a preference about styling, interior accommodations, and what's available to you at a price you can afford. I bought a '57, because I'd always loved the styling of them. The dash leaves a lot to be desired from a practicality standpoint, but these aren't really sports cars anyway, so it isn't that important. Parts are available for all these cars; I have not found any difficulty getting them, or for the '59 I owned years ago. C1s are not great handling cars, but they can be made to run nicely and, because they are a Chevy, reliably. And you can't beat the looks- they are an authentic piece of fifties and sixties Americana.

People forget because now the odd, one-off things are desirable (like the split window) but the 58 was considered garish in its day with the trunk spears, washboard hood, grill teeth, etc.. Funny how tastes change...

I am a big fan of the Cascade Green 57, just because it's such a crazy looking color! Same reason i like 65-66 Nassau Blue... There is no answer to this question because each person has a different opinion of what best fits their needs. They are all awesome, and all a P.I.T.A. at the same time!!
...and i am not sure if that Cascade Green is a 56-57 color or not, but that's what does it for me in the C1 body style, but who is going to not like any color, any year C1??

The one thing I guarantee, is that whatever year, whatever color you end up buying, you will be positive that is the BEST one!!
