Default Anyone running a 500+ lift cam with a Tripower setup?

How much timing are you running? Know what your idle screw adjustments are at? Thanks

thanks

It would help to have more information about what motor, what carbs and cam duration. Lift on the factory L72/71 cam is 520/520 and idle mixture screws on a Holley 4150 series carb out of the box should be about 1 1/2 turns out. 500+ lift by itself doesn't tell enough.

I'm running a Crane solid flat tappet can that's close in spec to the factory cam and a Holley 3310. Idle screws are 1 1/4 turns out, static timing is 20 BTDC, all in is 38 at 2200 and vacuum advance is 12 - all in at 15 inches all in crank degrees.

You should be running around 36 degrees max timing with initial and centrifugal advance all in.

.600/.608 in 327 with 750 4150 Holley low 250's durations @ .050
21 initial plus 17 centrifugal all in by 2300.................14 degrees vac advance
Idle screws (4 corner idle) all 3/4 turn out. If screws are different side to side, then you have an internal problem or modification to deal with.

Didn't you have someone rework carb? I wouldn't think it would take much to deal with a 230* cam. What's to doing now after rework?

Not much to work with except sound like a relatively straight forward high performance build. What's the history on the carburetors? New? Restored? Rebuilt? If sitting awhile might just need to remove it and clean it with a can of spray carb cleaner with special attention to removing the idle screws and shoot out the idle passages and especially all the small air bleeds that make the idle and transition circuits function. Wear face protection as that cleaner comes shooting back out of the passages in unsuspecting ways sometimes. Verify the throttle blades in the idle position sit about a third of the transition slot length down from the top. The remove the bowl sight plug when you re-start it and check the float and fuel level setting.

Did you set the float level yet? And if that doesn't fix it check the needle and seat for trash. Very common even with newly rebuilt carbs. Dan I have looked at his carb and it's very nice. An excellent redie of everything and the carb is nice. I didn't know about the flooding issue when I looked at it I was looking specifically at the idle circuit and the idle screw. They had put too long of spring on it and with the screw all of the way bottomed out it wouldn't open the throttle any.

Did they tell you what they changed? Do idle screws have any impact? Like if you turn them in...does it die? If you back them all the way out does it get better?
