Default Vintage Corvette tragedy

RIP Mr. Haydock, from Ashland, Kansas. This really hurts, so sad.

Yeah - well alcohol was a factor and seat belts weren't in use...getting ejected from a vehicle at speed is a death sentence. And he crossed the center line, luckily he didn't kill anybody else. I'm sorry it happened, but it was completely avoidable..

What a shame, nonetheless.

At the very minimum he certainly did not make the odds more favorable.

Sounds like he was on a mission, and he succeeded.

I do agree with but when it is your 20 year old son that was allowed to drink at his friends house and the parents let him get in his car and drive home I wish it was the ******* parents that died and not my son!

Yeah-sad and avoidable. Tragic loss. Many of us (including me) put ourselves in similar situations in our early years but just lucked out.

Drunk driving and no seat belt. The type of car he was driving does not matter, the guy was a dumbass who signed his own death warrant, and fortunately nobody else's.

I feel sad for the Corvette.

Tragic, yes. Stupid, yes. Avoidable, yes. But I had very serious injuries as a result of getting hit by a drunk driver, so I am very grateful to hear that no one else was involved.

Seems to be a bunch of premature name calling on just some speculation. Appears? What, did they see an empty beer can in the field or what?

"Appears" is the terminology in the initial accident report of obvious evidence of alcohol being involved. A toxicology report would confirm that appearance.

I'll wait for the toxicology report and the other evidence before I'll call the victim a dumbass. The accident was in NM and all accidents there are related to alcohol.

Drunk or not, driving without wearing a seat belt tells me this guy wasn't on his way to a Mensa meeting...

Interesting attitudes here, as a person who drives my C2s frequently, and have been on this road driving to car shows before (not far from where I live), it hits close to home for me so I guess I have a bit more empathy for the deceased and his family than many here do. But, an astute friend pointed out something I missed the first time I looked at the picture, there is a detached knockoff wheel laying beside the road in front of the wreck. Could it be that the car threw a wheel and that caused the wreck? Still avoidable I guess, and no seat belt, but frankly rolling a C2 roadster, you might have a better chance being thrown out of it.

Fact is, if you're wearing your seat belt, which keeps you centered behind the wheel and sober (whether you believe the initial report or not) you are one helluva lot more likely to be able to deal with a mechanical failure (wheel leaving the car or whatever)...

This guy rolled the dice IMO with a bad result....enough said...

Drunk or not, he may have had a mechanical failure that caused loss of steering or he may have been pushing the limits of a 52 year old car and lost control.
