Fuel Tank Relocation
Has anyone relocated their gas tank on a 58-62? I’d like to consider what it would take to delete the spare wheel well and place under the trunk floor.

I've seen it done on C1s which are vintage raced. It's not an inexpensive or easy project: Either you have a custom fuel cell made to fit the spare tire well or you rework a lot of fiberglass.
Moving fuel storage to the rear of the car likely would expose you to greater fire risk in the event of a rear-ender (Think Pinto....).
So, as ejboyd asked, why do you want to do this?

I am not sure who made this round fuel cell, but It fits into the
spare tire recess. I looks like a pretty straight forward conversion.
Sorry about the poor photo.

Once upon a time long, long ago, a local had a 57 racer with an alum fuel cell in the spare tire well. The relocation was a quality job.
I fully appreciate the desire to relocate the tank to the rear, BUUUUUUUUUUUUT, if it were mine, I would NOT modify the fiberglass, and simply install a cell in the spare tire well.
If the intent is for the car to be a racer, one thing to keep in mind. With a stock tank location, as the fuel quantity (and weight) goes down, there will not be much change in the center of gravity, BUT, with the tank in the trunk, as the quantity, and subsequent weight, goes down, the CG may change noticeably.

Ask Not Red Rob. He has had 2 of them done, filler under the tail light. They may or may not want to give out that info.
I have and am still considering putting extra fuel capacity in the spare tire well.

Probably not what you are looking for, but I moved the fuel tank and battery to the trunk. Reason for moving was the roll cage bracing in the original gas tank space.
