Default C1 led questions

I want to replace the stock incandescent tail light bulbs in my 62 Chevy Corvette with LED replacement bulbs. I'm not looking for the whole assembly as I found on the internet. I have found two numbers one is part number 1034 the other is part number 1157. So the first question is which one would be correct for my tail light application? Secondly does any manufacturer make a plug-and-play style bulb or do I need a resistor as well? Finally, what is the difference between SMD LEDs, super bright LEDs, and plasma LEDs?

I don't currently own a 62, so this comes from memory of the ones I did own - The dual element 1157 is correct for the stop/turn/tail light bulbs. The 1156 is the correct number for the backup lights and other single function bulbs.
We tried both LED bulbs and LED infused lenses on R66 and neither required the addition of the resistors nor changing the flasher.
Yet, I tried the bulbs in our 68RS and even with only one bulb, the signals would not flash. Guess you just have to try it to find out.
Good luck.

If switching from incandescent to LED lamps be sure to get LEDs that match the color of the lens through which they will be viewed. Due to the characteristics of LED light, a"white" LED lamp shining through a red lens will disappoint you.

For future reference, the answer to your basic question can be found in your owner's manual, if you have one.

No backup lights on a 62...

FYI: The LED "modules" for the rear lights have many individual LEDs in them.. maybe 20 or 25, spread around the unit. They are very bright. A single LED in the center may not work as well.

So what I've gathered is I'm looking for a part number 1157, the newer plasma LED bulbs in red, and no need for a resistor/blinker?

I have bought "several" LED 1157 bulbs and I did not get the results that were advertised.
The next step was to get the lense and bulb combo and that did the trick for me
I did not change the bulbs in the front park/turn so no resistors were needed in that circuit

These are extremely bright,a nd shine straight out teh back, they a re not "tower' style, they just blast out the back. You DO want RED leds for your tail lights.

https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...t-car/806/749/ I have them and love them. I paid a fair amount more, 8 years ago, though. Not $3 each, like they are now.

This one is "brighter" by lumen output, but i have no experience with it. A lot depends on how reflective the C1 housing is (not very), and how much room is in the housing for bulb height.
