57 hood poppers

57 hood poppers
Hi,
I am installing the hood catches and the pop ups at the front of the hood by the rad. I was wondering if there is a pad or cover that goes on the poppers or the underside of the hood. Seems to me that the poppers could scratch the paint on the underside of hood where they make contact. let me know how I should proceed.
Thanks,
Pat

Yes, there are pads that protect the hood. I imagine they are available from some vendors.
These are on my '54.

There is nothing to protect the hood
The "puck" on Dan70 hood is what 53's and early 54 hood look like
Mid 54 they changed the hood design and the "puck" was incorporated into the hood.

I was lucky and I learned something new also. Ive been reading/studying specifically 54's for 15 years and have never seen the "pucks" not incorporated in the hood.

So the poppers will push directly on the painted underside of the hood. will this cause scratches to the paint.

I think that the hood springs or (poppers as you call them) are the least of your problem with a 1956/57 hood. T1956/57 hoods do not pull up straight due to the poor hinge design. The hood if not adjusted correctly or pulled up from one side or the other could chafe on the front panel, and the hood lip paint could chip or mark. This paint you can see from the upside and it is not easily touched up like the black under the hood black out paint.
Don't just let anyone lift your hood. The black is easy to tough up. the color is not.
Just an opinion.

The writeup below by Dave Zuberer pretty much wraps up this issue and explains how to get your '56-'57 hood to fit and operate properly; also attached some pix of one of my 57's that show the left side hood hinge area and the front hood fit (original photos disappeared when Village Photo took everyone's money and split to the Cayman Islands).

You dont need to cut grooves in the pins to get the hood to stay closed
New pins and make sure the hole in the latch is not oblong - if it is replace it
The pop up you asked about in the your orig thread can be adjusted up and down - when the hood is popped - the pop ups should raise the front of the hood enough so it clears the front lip so it does not chip the paint.
